Ceramic composite protection for turbine disc bursts [PDF]
Ceramic composite turbine disc protection panels for the A300B were developed using armor technology. Analytical predictions for modifying the ballistic projectile armor system were verified by a test program conducted to qualify the rotor containment ...

Quantum partition noise of photo-created electron-hole pairs
We show experimentally that even when no bias voltage is applied to a quantum conductor, the electronic quantum partition noise can be investigated using GHz radiofrequency irradiation of a reservoir.

Correlation regimes in fluctuations of fatigue crack growth [PDF]
This paper investigates correlation properties of fluctuations in fatigue crack growth of polycrystalline materials, such as ductile alloys, that are commonly encountered in structures and machinery components of complex electromechanical systems.

Expansion velocity of a one-dimensional, two-component Fermi gas during the sudden expansion in the ballistic regime [PDF]
We show that in the sudden expansion of a spin-balanced two-component Fermi gas into an empty optical lattice induced by releasing particles from a trap, over a wide parameter regime, the radius $R_n$ of the particle cloud grows linearly in time.

A new class of biohybrid spheroids is engineered through the self‐assembly of adherent cells and extracellular matrix‐mimetic hydrogel microparticles (microgels). By mimicking a snowballing effect, this approach enables scalable formation of porous, millimeter‐scale spheroids with enhanced cell viability and molecular diffusion.

Ballistic electron spectroscopy
We demonstrate the feasibility of ballistic electron spectroscopy as a new tool for mesoscopic physics. A quantum dot is utilised as an energy-selective detector of non-equilibrium ballistic electrons injected into a two-dimensional electron system.

Ejecta‐Modulated Bubble Dynamics Play a Dominant Role in Stone Retropulsion
Stone motion during laser ablation is shown to result primarily from asymmetric cavitation bubble collapse, not from ejecta recoil. This challenges long‐standing assumptions and highlights the dominant role of bubble dynamics in laser–material interactions.
