Influence of cryogenic treatment on mechanical and ballistic properties of AA5754 alloy friction stir welded joints

open access: yesDefence Technology
In the present study, the mechanical and ballistic properties of friction stir welded (FSW) aluminum alloy (AA5754) samples were investigated, both untreated and cryogenically treated, when impacted by a 7.62 mm armour-piercing (AP) bullet at an impact ...

Adhesive Joints Testing of Ceramic and Anti-Ballistic Fabrics [PDF]

open access: yesProblemy Mechatroniki, 2016
The research results of adhesive joints used in the manufacture of bulletproof vests were presented. The joints were prepared on the basis of polyethylene and aramid fabrics and ceramic tiles of SiC and Al2O3 types.

Effect of a Halloysite-polyurethane nanocomposite interlayer on the ballistic performance of laminate transparent armour

open access: yesComposites Part C: Open Access, 2022
Polyurethanes are commonly used in transparent armour systems to increase the survivability, blast resistance, multi-hit resistance, and fragment containment of multi-layered systems.

A Comparison of Ballistic Resistance Testing Techniques in the Department of Defense

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2014
Ballistic resistance testing is conducted in the Department of Defense (DoD) to estimate the probability that a projectile will perforate the armor of a system under test.

Testing of some Ballistic Experiments [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1901
WHEN the Council of Military Education directed my attention to the science of ballistics in 1864, I came to the conclusion that a thoroughly good chronograph would solve all practical difficulties. The newly-invented instrument was first tried in 1865 with ten screens 120 feet apart, by the ue of a 12-pr. Armstrong B.L.

Simulation and Experimental Tests of Ballistic Impact on Composite Laminate Armor

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
This paper presents the experimental testing and simulation results of ballistic impact tests on laminated armor samples that consist of three layers of different materials: fiber-cement, Kevlar fabric, and steel. In experimental tests, a 9 mm FMJ bullet

Fabrication of AA7005/TiB2-B4C surface composite by friction stir processing: Evaluation of ballistic behaviour

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2019
The present work aims to enhance the ballistic resistance of AA7005 alloy by incorporating the TiB2 and B4C ceramic reinforcement particles. Surface composites with different weight fractions of TiB2 and B4C particles were processed by friction stir ...

Experimental and simulated research on the ballistic performance of Ti/AlTi laminate composites

open access: yesAdvanced Composites Letters, 2020
The metal-intermetallic laminate composite Ti/Al 3 Ti can be used as protective armor in aerospace and military applications, due to its low density, high strength, and superior impact-resistant performance.

Parity‐Dependent THz Harmonic Generation in Electrically Pumped Micro‐Lasers Exploiting Topological Insulator–Metamaterial Gratings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Topological insulator–metamaterials integrated with electrically driven terahertz quantum cascade lasers enable parity‐dependent harmonic generation. Bulk‐dominated Bi2Se3 favors third‐harmonic emission at 9.96 THz, whereas topological‐surface‐state‐dominated Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3, and (Bi,Sb)2Te3 generate strong second harmonics near 6.5 THz.
