Ballistic testing of transparent armour ceramics

open access: yesJournal of the European Ceramic Society, 2009
The testing methodology for transparent armour is described. The focus of this paper is on the assessment of the protective strength of transparent ceramics being used in transparent armour systems. Not only the ballistic testing method but also experimental techniques which allow the visualization of damage and the projectile penetration are discussed.

The ballistic range and aerothermodynamic testing

15th Aerodynamic Testing Conference, 1988
A renewed interest in hypervelocity vehicles requires an increase in our knowledge of aerothermodynamic phenomena. Tests conducted in our ground-based facilities can be used both to better understand the physics of hypervelocity flight, and to calibrate and validate computer codes designed to predict vehicle performance in the hypervelocity environment.

Ballistic range and aerothermodynamic testing

Journal of Aircraft, 1991
Recent interest in hypervelocity vehicles requires an increase in our understanding of aerothermodyn amic phenomena. Tests conducted in ground-based facilities will be used to better our understanding of the physics of hypervelocity flight and to verify computer models that will be used to predict vehicle performance in this environment.
