Inspired by the Mexican jumping bean, this study presents a centimeter‐scale, electronics‐free robot that merges principles from both the animal and plant kingdoms. A thermo‐responsive actuator mimicking larval motion, enclosed within a uniquely shaped plant‐seed‐inspired shell, generates jumping, rolling, flipping, sliding, and climbing through ...

Thermoelectric conductivity decreases nonlinearly with increasing temperature for all investigated band‐gap values. Higher energy splitting yields lower conductivity, while smaller gaps maintain superior carrier transport. Peak response occurs at low temperature, followed by gradual saturation at elevated temperatures.

Computational fluid dynamics simulations of airflow through the nasal passages of rhinolophoid bats
Abstract The nasal passages of bats that emit their echolocation call through their nostrils have adapted for sound emission as well as standard respiratory and olfactory functions. Rhinolophids, hipposiderids and rhinonycterids all use a high duty cycle (HDC) echolocation strategy.

The Tendon‐to‐Bone Seam: A Transtendinous Approach to Rotator Cuff Repair
Abstract This technique article describes the tendon‐to‐bone seam technique, a knotless, transtendinous approach to arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. The technique employs a single‐use deployment device preloaded with multiple PEEK anchors interconnected with a single polyethylene #2 suture, enabling the surgeon to create a continuous “seam” of ...

Numerical investigations on the sabots discard process of an APFSDS at different angles of attack
Sabot asymmetric discard after the projectile being launched from the muzzle at various angles of attack and 4Ma is investigated. This is implemented by the coupling computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and six degrees-of-freedom exterior ballistic code ...

Maximizing Neurovascular Outcomes of Facial Transplantation: A Comprehensive Review
ABSTRACT Facial transplantation is a division of reconstructive surgery which aims to improve the function and appearance of a face that has endured severe disfigurement. Currently, the face transplant procedure uses allogenic tissue, harvested from a brain‐dead donor, to replace damaged facial components.

Hitting a bullet with a bullet: an analysis of colliding bullets using experimental data and explicit simulation methods [PDF]
A method to simultaneously fire and achieve a nose-to-nose collision of two bullets was created and compared to simulated results. This research focused on symmetric Taylor impact test techniques applied to 45-caliber Hornady 45177 full metal jacket (FMJ)

Preventing wall deposition in duct flows: The role of particle number density and flow direction
Abstract Particle deposition in wall‐bounded turbulent flows is a challenge in many industries, including pneumatic conveying, filtration, and related applications. When particles accumulate near boundaries, they reduce transport efficiency, alter near‐wall flow structures, and cause blockage.
