Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty

open access: yesJournal of Interventional Cardiology, 1998
Since the description by Lababidi in 1983 of balloon aortic valvuloplasty, it has been used extensively by several groups of workers for relief of valvar aortic stenosis of moderate to severe degree. The indications for the procedure are peak‐to‐peak gradients ≥ 50 mmHg with symptoms or ECG changes or a gradient of ≥ 70 mmHg irrespective of the ...

A buoyant tornado-probe concept incorporating an inverted lifting device [PDF]

open access: yes
Addition of an inverted lifting device to a simple balloon probe is shown to make possible low-altitude entry to tornado cores with easier launch conditions than for the simple balloon probe.

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.

New readout and data-acquisition system in an electron-tracking Compton camera for MeV gamma-ray astronomy (SMILE-II) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
For MeV gamma-ray astronomy, we have developed an electron-tracking Compton camera (ETCC) as a MeV gamma-ray telescope capable of rejecting the radiation background and attaining the high sensitivity of near 1 mCrab in space. Our ETCC comprises a gaseous
