Pediatric Airway Balloon Dilation
2012Over the past decade, there has also been renewed interest in serial dilatation for the management of subglottic and tracheal stenosis with the advent of new technologies such as airway balloons designed for the pediatric airway. In this chapter, the authors describe the technique of application of airway balloons as a useful adjunct for management of ...

Histopathology of balloon‐dilation eustachian tuboplasty
The Laryngoscope, 2014Objectives/HypothesisSurgical intervention of the Eustachian tube (ET) has become increasingly common in the past decade, and balloon dilation has shown promising results in recent studies. Retrograde balloon dilatation under X-ray visualization presents a new way of treatment of incomplete postsaccal stenosis. These stenoses in the area of the nasolacrimal duct in adults exhibit a common factor of favorable circumstances in the prestenotic area for recurring inflammations.

Balloon Dilatation of the Prostate
1994Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common urologic problem in adult males. More than 80% of males over 50 years of age will be afflicted by the condition (Casteneda et al. 1987) and approximately 25% of patients in this age group will eventually require a prostatectomy (Birkhoff, 1983).

Radioscopically-guided balloon dilation of esophageal stenosis is an effective and easily performed palliative procedure. Our experience with balloon dilation of esophageal stenosis in 12 patients was reviewed. Every patient underwent 2-5 sessions. Dysphagia disappeared completely in 2 patients. Ten patients had significant improvement.

Balloon catheters are main devices for endovascular treatment, and, based on the features of their delivery systems, they can be classified into two types, i.e., the over-the-wire (OTW) type and the rapid exchange system (RX) type. This chapter provides a tabular summary of the names, brands, compliances, and specifications of balloon catheters, as ...
