Balloon pulmonary angioplasty in patients with CTEPH
2022The only curative treatment currently available for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is surgical pulmonary endoarterectomy (PEA). However, several patients may have high risk factors for surgery, or a peripheral disease not amenable to surgical treatment; or else a residual pulmonary hypertension after PEA.

We experienced a rare complication where extravasation developed a pseudo-chamber long after the balloon pulmonary angioplasty for supravalvular pulmonary stenosis. A 3-month-old girl was diagnosed with an anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery. She underwent the Takeuchi procedure at 10 months of age.

Balloon Angioplasty in the Treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension Caused by Pulmonary Embolism
Chest, 1988We present a 30-year-old man with pulmonary hypertension after pulmonary embolism. Pulmonary angiography showed multiple stenoses in the pulmonary vascular tree. We treated four of these stenoses by balloon angioplasty in three sessions. Pulmonary artery pressure was reduced from 90/25 mm Hg (mean 46) to 78/13 mm Hg (mean 35) with concomitant increase ...

Balloon angioplasty for branch pulmonary artery stenosis—Cutting balloons
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 2007AbstractPulmonary artery stenosis can cause right ventricular strain but intrapulmonary lesions are inaccessible to surgery; moreover, some are also resistant to high pressure balloon angioplasty. An alternative is the use of microsurgical devices mounted on balloons for transvenous delivery, including cutting balloons. The current literature is sparse

Balloon pulmonary angioplasty for inoperable chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension
Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine, 2015Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), especially when severe in patients unsuited for pulmonary endarterectomy, has a poor prognosis. Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) is a new catheter-based alternative treatment option for patients with inoperable CTEPH. BPA has not been widely accepted, however, primarily because of possible fatal

Balloon angioplasty of pulmonary artery stenosis
Progress in Pediatric Cardiology, 1992Abstract Balloon dilation is an established and useful option in the management of patients with branch pulmonary artery stenosis, and it is successful in ~50–60% of cases. Success appears to be associated with the use of balloons with larger balloon-to-stenotic segment ratios and not with patient age. Recent experience suggests a mortality rate of 1%
