Recovery of Young Balsam Fir Trees Damaged by Balsam Woolly Aphid

open access: yesThe Forestry Chronicle, 1976
After one period of balsam woolly aphid damage, young balsam fir trees resumed normal height growth by the reactivation of inhibited terminal buds on 60% of trees, and by re-orientation of primary internodal and nodal branches on 24% and 16% of trees, respectively. Permanent forks and crooks were formed only infrequently. Height growth loss on damaged

Effect of Balsam Woolly Aphid on Cone and Seed Production by Balsam Fir

open access: yesThe Forestry Chronicle, 1976
The size of cones and the quantity and quality of seed produced by balsam fir, Abies balsamea (L.) Mill, in five balsam woolly aphid Adelges piceae (Ratz.), damage classes were compared. No cone or seed abnormalities that could be attributed to aphid infestation or the amount of aphid damage to the trees were detected.

Investigating climate anomalies associated with the sudden mortality of balsam fir trees in eastern Canada

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change
The identification of climate anomalies associated with large-scale stand disturbances can help inform climate-focused forest management. In the spring and summer of 2018, an unusual spike in balsam fir (Abies balsamea) mortality was reported in multiple

COMPATIBILITY OF FOUR EASTERN CANADIAN WOODS WITH GYPSUM AND GYPSUM-CEMENT BINDERS BY ISOTHERMAL CALORIMETRY COMPATIBILIDAD DE CUATRO MADERAS DEL ESTE DE CANADÁ CON YESO Y YESO-CEMENTO POR CALORIMETRÍA ISOTÉRMICA

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2008
In order to determine the feasibility of manufacturing wood-gypsum and wood-gypsum-cement particleboards, the hydration reactions of four Eastern Canadian wood species with gypsum and Portland cement were studied. The compatibility of hot water extracted
