Mitogenomic Characterization and Phylogenetic Expansion of Tribe Coccinellini (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study presents the complete mitochondrial genomes of nine ladybird species from the tribe Coccinellini and compares them with 58 previously published mitogenomes. Phylogenetic analyses confirm the taxonomic placement of these species within Coccinellini.

Differences in Lectin‐Like Oxidized Low‐Density Lipoprotein Receptor‐1 Expression and Chemotaxis Between Neutrophils in the Oral Cavity and Those in Whole Blood

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) are crucial for oral health, yet their surface characteristics remain poorly understood. This study reveals elevated LOX‐1 expression on oral PMNs, indicating a heightened activation state, as evidenced by altered CD11b, CD66b, and CD62L levels.

Diversity of microfungi preserved in European Palaeogene amber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Fungi are one of the most diverse groups of organisms, but their fossil record is scarce compared with that of plants and animals. However, many fossils of microfungi have survived as inclusions in amber, which is fossilized resin produced by ancient ...

Divergent defense strategies and niche partitioning in Cretaceous micro‐beetles

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, Volume 64, Issue 2, Page 354-362, March 2026.
We report a new clambid beetle from mid‐Cretaceous Kachin amber, Scutacalyptus kolibaci gen. et sp. nov., characterized by a flattened body and explanate margins. Alongside spiny and conglobating clambid forms, this diversity reflects niche partitioning and varied antipredator strategies in the Cretaceous forest floor.
