On the Origins of Out‐of‐Plane Auxetic Response in Paper
physica status solidi (b), EarlyView.Paper can be auxetic! Paper can exhibit a range of out‐of‐plane Poisson's ratio (PR) values. Examining handsheets made from hardwood (HW) and softwood (SW) fibers, of a variety of weights (1, 3, or 5 g) and refining degrees (none, R, or R+), showed that the sign and magnitude of PR can be finely controlled by modifying network parameters.

Here, we generated a canopy height map of the Amazon forest at ~4.8 m resolution using Planet NICFI imagery and a deep learning U‐Net model trained with airborne LiDAR data.

Journal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.Ecological paradigms suggest that the environmentally stressful edge of a habitat is determined by physical factors. The work finds that, counter to these paradigms, an environmentally stressful edge can also be impacted by biotic interactions and are more complex than suggested.
