Bifunctional Electrocatalysts in Rechargeable Lithium‐Gas Batteries: Material Evolution and Mechanistic Insights from Metal‐Free Carbons to Carbon‐Supported Single‐Atom Sites

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This review charts the material evolution of bifunctional electrocatalysts for rechargeable lithium‐gas batteries. It highlights the journey from heteroatom‐doped, metal‐free carbon architectures to precision‐engineered carbon‐supported single‐atom sites. The discussion focuses on mechanistic insights into how these catalysts govern reversible O2, CO2,

Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of ZIP gene family reveal its potential functions in rapid shoot growth in Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis (Carrière) J.Houz.)

open access: yesAdvances in Bamboo Science
The rapid expansion of Moso bamboo shoots is essential for effectively establishing Moso bamboo forests. ZIP (Zinc-regulated, Iron-regulated transporter-like Protein) refers to a group of transport proteins that are vital for the uptake and movement of ...

Designing Butterfly‐Inspired Architecture in Self‐Assembled Hybrid Composites for Synergistic Structural Thermal Management

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Pioneering a butterfly‐inspired design strategy, this work engineers hybrid composites with hierarchical fibrous architectures to achieve synergistic performance. By translating biological principles into scalable composite architectures, it introduces a novel pathway to lightweight, multifunctional, and cost‐effective materials.

Uncovering environmental implications of historical stewardship of Japanese Moso Bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) forests: a review using a multivariate imputation approach

open access: yesEcological Informatics
Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) is an introduced, highly invasive species common across central and southwest Japan, significantly influencing carbon (C) cycling and forest management. Abandonment leads to the degradation and uncontrolled spread of

Ammonia Oxidation for Energy Conversion and Environmental Remediation: Mechanism‐Guided Catalyst Design for Electrochemical, Photocatalytic, and Photoelectrochemical Systems

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This review establishes a mechanism‐guided framework for catalyst design in electrochemical, photocatalytic, and photoelectrochemical ammonia oxidation. By correlating catalyst structure, reaction mechanisms, catalytic performance, and device‐level architectures, it highlights rational engineering strategies and future directions toward efficient ...

Adjusting Our Thinking About Feeding Animals: Fiber as the Metric for Mimicking Natural Diets

open access: yesZoo Biology, EarlyView.
A typical effect of the change of an animal group to a diet higher in fiber: juveniles keep growing, animals of ideal body weight maintain their weight, and obese individuals lose weight. ABSTRACT Free‐ranging animals often ingest markedly different diets than their counterparts under human care, whether companion animals, production animals, or zoo ...

How Enrichment Aesthetic Shapes Zoo Visitor Perceptions of Chimpanzee Behavior and Conservation

open access: yesZoo Biology, EarlyView.
Enrichment aesthetic (natural vs non‐natural) does not impact visitor perceptions of chimpanzee behavior, conservation, or pet suitability. Most visitors associate chimpanzees with a conservation status of vulnerable, rather than endangered. ABSTRACT Public perceptions of chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) are shaped by the context in which they are viewed.

Mobile consumers influence the shoreward edge of intertidal seagrass ecosystems

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Ecological paradigms suggest that the environmentally stressful edge of a habitat is determined by physical factors. The work finds that, counter to these paradigms, an environmentally stressful edge can also be impacted by biotic interactions and are more complex than suggested.
