Electrolytic (C2CNT) Carbon Nanotubes Made From CO2 as an Inexpensive Carbon Sink and High‐Capacity Li‐Ion Battery Graphite Replacement

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
Carbon‐negative carbon nanotubes produced by molten CO2 electrolysis offer a low‐cost, high‐performance alternative to graphite in Li‐ion battery anodes. Replacing conventional carbon materials with electrolytic CNTs can improve battery capacity and charging performance while reducing costs and contributing to carbon mitigation.

Bacterial and fungal communities exhibit contrasting assembly processes during native bamboo expansion through coupled vegetation-soil modifications across elevation gradients

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation
Effects of native species expansion on microbial assembly processes remain unquantified. While such expansions alter vegetation-soil systems, the role of edaphic factors such as pH, ionic composition, and nutrient dynamics in shaping microbial responses ...

Document expansion for image retrieval [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Successful information retrieval requires effective matching between the user's search request and the contents of relevant documents. Often the request entered by a user may not use the same topic relevant terms as the authors' of the documents.

Profiling of Dietary Fiber From Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata) Seed Hulls Pertaining to Monosaccharide Composition, Structural, Thermal, and Functional Properties

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Dietary fiber (soluble/insoluble) was recovered from pumpkin seed hulls using hydrothermal extraction. Process parameters were optimized, and a comprehensive profiling of recovered fiber fractions was performed. ABSTRACT Insoluble (IDF) and soluble dietary fiber (SDF) were recovered from pumpkin seed hulls (PSHs) using hydrothermal treatment ...

Programmable crack dynamics engineering enables flexible strain sensors with high linearity

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
First‐decoupling theoretical framework of crack evolution elucidating the control methods, mechanistic insights, and structure‐activity relationships is established. Crack propagation from uncontrollable randomness systematically evolves into spatially ordered states.

Environmental Assessment of Industrial Bamboo Products: Life Cycle Assessment and Carbon Sequestration

open access: yes, 2015
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is the commonly accepted methodology to systematically assess the environmental impact of a material over the full life cycle, from the extraction of resources until the end phase of demolition or recycling (from cradle till ...

Putative trait‐based retention of oral‐derived microbes along the oral–gut axis in bamboo‐eating pandas

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Compared with the two herbivorous comparison species, pandas showed higher estimated oral‐source contributions and enrichment of microbial traits associated with facultative anaerobiosis, biofilm formation, and stress tolerance. These patterns are consistent with a model in which greater oral microbial input and putative host filtering may jointly ...

Growth Characteristics of Ramet System in Phyllostachys praecox Forest under Mulch Management

open access: yesPlants
The ramet system is a typical structural type in the life history of clonal plants. This massive structure is formed by many similar ramets connected by underground rhizomes, which are independent and mutually influential.
