Wide-Range Tunable Dynamic Property of Carbon Nanotube-Based Fibers

open access: yes, 2015
Carbon nanotube (CNT) fiber is formed by assembling millions of individual tubes. The assembly feature provides the fiber with rich interface structures and thus various ways of energy dissipation, as reflected by the non-zero loss tangent (>0.028--0.045)

On the Origins of Out‐of‐Plane Auxetic Response in Paper

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
Paper can be auxetic! Paper can exhibit a range of out‐of‐plane Poisson's ratio (PR) values. Examining handsheets made from hardwood (HW) and softwood (SW) fibers, of a variety of weights (1, 3, or 5 g) and refining degrees (none, R, or R+), showed that the sign and magnitude of PR can be finely controlled by modifying network parameters.

Effect of Hot-Compressed Water Treatment of Bamboo Fiber on the Properties of Polypropylene/Bamboo Fiber Composite

open access: yesBioResources, 2015
A water-soluble fraction of bamboo ranging from 9.2 to 23.5 wt% was obtained by hot-compressed water (HCW) treatment as the temperature increased from 140 to 180 °C. Both untreated and HCW-treated bamboo fibers (BF) were then compounded with polypropylene (PP), either with or without the addition of 5 phr maleic anhydride-grafted PP (MAPP), to net a ...
