Comparative Study of the Resistance of Six Hawaii-Grown Bamboo Species to Attack by the Subterranean Termites Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki and Coptotermes gestroi (Wasmann) (Blattodea: Rhinotermitidae)

open access: yesInsects, 2011
Bamboo is widely grown and utilized as a construction material around the world, particularly in the tropics. At present, there are about 70 bamboo species and varieties recorded from Hawaii.

Running bamboo species pose a greater invasion risk than clumping bamboo species in the continental United States

open access: yesJournal for Nature Conservation, 2018
Abstract Bamboo species have been promoted for utility in both biomass and pulp production because of their high productivity. However, some bamboo species are known to be problematic invaders. Our goal was to use a weed risk assessment (WRA) tool to evaluate and compare invasion risk of non-native running and clumping bamboo species, many of which ...

Characterizing Biopolymer Electrolytes in Zinc–Air Batteries: Challenges, Best Practices, and a Robust Workflow Guiding Future Research Paths

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based gel polymer electrolytes promise sustainable, mechanically adaptable zinc–air batteries, yet their progress is constrained by inconsistent characterization. This review critically links formulation, structure, interfaces, and cell performance, identifies methodological gaps under alkaline operating conditions, and proposes application ...

Regional Differences in U.S. Consumer Preferences for Native Woody Shrubs With Varying Aesthetic Characteristics

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Native plants offer a variety of aesthetic (e.g., fall colour, fruit, flowers) and functional benefits (e.g., pollinator friendly, wildlife friendly, water management). How these benefits influence consumer choice and perceived value of native versus introduced plants is not well understood.

Identification of Bamboo Species Based on Leaf Texture using Gray Level Co-Occurrence Matrix and Gray Level Run Length Matrix

open access: yesJurnal Teknologi dan Sistem Komputer, 2018
Bamboo species can be identified from the bamboo leaf images. This study conducted the identification of bamboo species based on leaf texture using Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) and Gray Level Run Length Matrix (GLRLM) for texture feature ...

Three‐dimensional digital analysis of musteloid masticatory muscle architecture

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Musteloids span an enormous breadth of dietary modes within a single superfamily. In this study, we utilize digital dissection techniques to reconstruct the internal 3D anatomy of muscles within the musteloid feeding apparatus, and explore how dietary specializations might alter the size, orientation, and curvature of fascicles therein.

PENGAWETAN TIGA JENIS BAMBU DENGAN METODE RENDAMAN DINGIN

open access: yesJurnal Penelitian Hasil Hutan (Journal of Forest Products Research), 2017
Cold soaking tests of three bamboo species in Formula 7 preservative  were performed.  Results indicated that cold soaking  in one day with 5%  Formula 7 gives satisfactory  penetration  and retention in the specimens of betung and andong species.
