Journal of Approximation Theory, 1979 AbstractWe study the best approximation of a point x in a Banach space B from a C2 manifold. We derive a formula for the radius of curvature at points on the manifold and we use it to obtain a formula for the Frechet derivative of the metric projection onto the manifold.
