Manual graphic roadmap for transarterial coil embolization of guttural pouch arteries in horses: A technical note

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract This technical note describes the use of a manual graphic roadmap (MGR) to assist fluoroscopic guidance during transarterial coil embolization (TACE) for guttural pouch (GP) arterial hemorrhage. Horses underwent MGR‐assisted TACE at the Equine Clinic, Free University of Berlin, between 2012 and 2024.

Core decompression augmented with bone marrow aspirate concentrate for refractory distal sesamoid bone pathology in horses: A retrospective clinical study

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To determine short‐ and long‐term outcomes of core decompression combined with autologous bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) in treating moderate‐to‐severe refractory distal sesamoid bone (DSB) trabecular pathology in horses. Study design Retrospective observational study. Animals A total of 21 client‐owned Warmblood horses with

Technical note on cervical epidural catheterization in two adult horses: Injectate distribution and epidural space effects

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To determine the caudalmost extent of diffusion of contrast media administered through a cervical epidural catheter (CEC) and to describe pathologic changes associated with maintaining an indwelling CEC for up to 17 days. Study design Pilot study. Animals Two mature horses.

Changes in motor unit conduction velocity after unilateral lower‐limb suspension and active recovery are correlated with muscle ion channel gene expression

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The effects of muscle disuse on the propagation of action potentials along motor unit (MU) muscle fibres, a key process for effective muscle activation and force generation, remain poorly understood. The aim of this study was to investigate changes in action potential propagation and to identify biological factors influencing these changes ...

Heat treatment combined with hybrid exercises retraining mitigates cellular markers of protein turnover after hindlimb suspension in male mice: A pilot study

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Recent evidence suggests that heat treatment (HT) and resistance training can limit skeletal muscle mass loss during immobilization. However, the effects of repeated HT sessions combined with hybrid exercises (EX), which promote both endurance and resistance responses, on muscle protein turnover following hindlimb unloading (HU) remain ...
