Stray Light Artifacts in Imagery from the Landsat 8 Thermal Infrared Sensor

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2014
The Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) has been collecting imagery of the Earth since its launch aboard Landsat 8 in early 2013. In many respects, TIRS has been exceeding its performance requirements on orbit, particularly in terms of noise and stability ...

Migration routes of the endangered Oriental Stork (Ciconia boyciana) from Xingkai Lake, China, and their repeatability as revealed by GPS tracking

open access: yesAvian Research, 2023
The Oriental Stork (Ciconia boyciana) is listed as ‘Endangered’ on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species and is classified as a first category nationally protected bird species in China ...

Development and testing of a mechanical lure for raptor trapping

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2013
Raptor trapping and banding at migration stations rely upon the use of live lure birds to attract hawks to the trapping area. The use of these lure animals may present raptor researchers with legislative, regulatory, ethical, and logistical challenges ...

Regional recaptures of bats (Chiroptera, Vespertilionidae) ringed in Eastern Ukraine

open access: yesZoodiversity, 2020
Bats are volant and highly mobile mammals that could cover up to 2000 km seasonally (one-way migration). But the level of mobility among different roosts sites in a breeding season, and among breeding areas and hibernation sites is poorly studied.

Expressly Fabricated Molar Tube Bases: Enhanced Adhesion [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2014
Clinicians, Orthodontists and their patients’ parents often expect the best results in the shortest time span possible. Orthodontic bonding of molar tubes has been an acceptable risk in a modern era of refined biomaterials and instrumentation.

From the volcano effect to banding: a minimal model for bacterial behavioral transitions near chemoattractant sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Sharp chemoattractant (CA) gradient variations near food sources may give rise to dramatic behavioral changes of bacteria neighboring these sources. For instance, marine bacteria exhibiting run-reverse motility are known to form distinct bands around ...

Homogeneous bands [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematics, 2018
A countable band $B$ is called homogeneous if every isomorphism between finitely generated subbands extends to an automorphism of $B$. In this paper we give a complete classification of all the homogeneous bands. We prove that a homogeneous band belongs to the variety of regular bands, and has a homogeneous structure semilattice.

Peculiarities of the present structure of the Bug granulite complex developed within the Middle Bug area and its partitioning into series and suits

open access: yesГеофизический журнал, 2022
The Gaivoron-Zavalie site and the Golovanevsk suture zone (GSZ) of the Bug mining region (BMR) in the Middle Bug region have been a «testing ground» for studying the structure and stratigraphy of the Early Precambrian complexes of the USh for many years.

Adult survival of Arctic terns in the Canadian High Arctic

open access: yesPolar Research, 2018
Arctic tern (Sterna paradisaea) populations are thought to be in decline across much of their range. For long-lived seabirds, determining adult survival rates is key to understanding current population trends and predicting trajectories.

Shear Banding and Spatiotemporal Oscillations in Vortex Matter in Nanostructured Superconductors

open access: yes, 2009
We propose a simple nanostructured pinning array geometry where a rich variety of complex vortex shear banding phenomena can be realized. A single row of pinning sites is removed from a square pinning array. Shear banding effects arise when vortex motion
