Bandwidth Selection for Local Linear Regression Smoothers
SummaryThe paper presents a general strategy for selecting the bandwidth of nonparametric regression estimators and specializes it to local linear regression smoothers. The procedure requires the sample to be divided into a training sample and a testing sample. Using the training sample we first compute a family of regression smoothers indexed by their

AI–Guided 4D Printing of Carnivorous Plants–Inspired Microneedles for Accelerated Wound Healing
This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI)‐guided 4D‐printed microneedle platform inspired by carnivorous plants for wound healing. A thermo‐responsive shape memory polymer enables body temperature–triggered self‐coiling for autonomous wound closure.

Bias in nearest-neighbor hazard estimation [PDF]
In nonparametric curve estimation, the smoothing parameter is critical for performance. In order to estimate the hazard rate, we compare nearest neighbor selectors that minimize the quadratic, the Kullback-Leibler, and the uniform loss.

Local generalised method of moments: an application to point process-based rainfall models
Long series of simulated rainfall are required at point locations for a range of applications, including hydrological studies. Clustered point process-based rainfall models have been used for generating such simulations for many decades.

Bandwidth selection in kernel distribution function estimation [PDF]
I present a new command, kcdf, for bandwidth selection in kernel estimation of the cumulative distribution function. I briefly review plug-in and cross-validation bandwidth selectors, both of which are implemented in kcdf.

Bandwidth allocation games based on network selection for video communication
A bandwidth allocation game based on network selection (BAG-NS) was proposed for video communication in heterogeneous wireless networks.Firstly, according to the video characteristics of different users and current network conditions, the algorithm ...

A giant insulator to metal transition and emergent superparamagnetism are revealed by nanoparticle exsolution in non‐stoichiometric titanate perovskite thin films. By combining transport, synchrotron spectroscopy, and first‐principles calculations, this work reveals how defect reconfiguration and lattice reconstruction fundamentally reshape electronic ...

Non Parametric Confidence Intervals for Receiver Operating Characteristic Curves [PDF]
We study methods for constructing confidence intervals, and confidence bands, for estimators of receiver operating characteristics. Particular emphasis is placed on the way in which smoothing should be implemented, when estimating either the ...

Semiparametric Localized Bandwidth Selection for Kernel Density Estimation
Since conventional cross–validation bandwidth selection methods don’t work for the case where the data considered are dependent time series, alternative bandwidth selection methods are needed.
