On utility‐optimised router‐level bandwidth allocation

Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies, 2012
ABSTRACTKelly's network utility maximisation (NUM) problems and solutions are aimed to maximise the aggregate utility subject to link capacity constraints. They are formulated and solved by using the individual flow rate vector. Because of the architecture of the current networks such as the Internet, the individual flow rates are generally not ...

Elastic reservations for efficient bandwidth utilization in LambdaGrids

Future Generation Computer Systems, 2007
We introduce the concept of elastic reservation of bandwidth capacity to mitigate the problem of bandwidth fragmentation in LambdaGrids and present a network model which can support elastic reservations. We also define the Elastic Scheduling Problem (ESP), which succinctly captures the optimal utilization objective of elastic reservations.

Maximum Bandwidth Utilization Demodulator

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1960
In narrow-band transmission of television or radar over telephone lines it is necessary to use a carrier system to avoid phase distortion normally present at the lower end of the transmission band. Using ordinary modulation and demodulation techniques, the usable video bandwidth is limited to one-half the carrier frequency.

A Forecasting Model for Data Center Bandwidth Utilization

2017
Bandwidth optimization and its efficient utilization is more challenging in operating data centers. Our model can assist for proper usage of resource utilization and accommodate large scale of bursty data. In this paper we propose forecast model for Data Center Bandwidth Utilization system; a forecast model for data centers to predict and estimate ...

Bandwidth utilization of a large local area network

IEEE Communications Magazine, 1989
DECnet Area 2, a local area network (LAN) that is part of Digital Equipment's worldwide Easynet, is described. It is comprised of several baseband Ethernet segments connected by local Ethernet repeaters and standard LAN Bridge 100 devices, which extend a LAN. Measurements carried out to determine whether the capacity of the Ethernet had been reached or

An algorithm for the efficient utilization of bandwidth in the slotted ring

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1992
The author presents an algorithm, in the form of a medium-access protocol, that allows for the efficient utilization of the bandwidth of the slotted ring local area network (LAN) with minimally added overhead. This algorithm results in an improved performance over the entire workload range and under most workload conditions, therefore illustrating how ...

Utilizing memory bandwidth in DSP embedded processors

Proceedings of the 38th conference on Design automation - DAC '01, 2001
This paper presents a network flow approach to solving the register binding and allocation problem for multi word memory access DSP processors. In recently announced DSP processors, such as Star*core, sixteen bit instructions which simultaneously access four words from memory are supported. A polynomial-time network flow methodology is used to allocate

New coding techniques for improved bandwidth utilization

Proceedings of 37th Conference on Foundations of Computer Science, 2002
The introduction of parallel models that account for communication between processors has shown that interprocessor bandwidth is often the limiting factor in parallel computing. In this paper, we introduce a new coding technique for transmitting the XOR of carefully selected patterns of bits to be communicated which greatly reduces bandwidth ...
