A nomenclatural review of Acalypha (Euphorbiaceae) of mainland Africa

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 74, Issue 5, Page 1217-1247, October 2025.
Abstract This paper presents a critical nomenclatural review of Acalypha species of continental Africa and the islands of Cape Verde, Saint Helena, and São Tomé and Príncipe. It is based mainly on the study of type specimens and is the first step towards a comprehensive taxonomic monograph of the genus in Africa.

A Gravity Study of the Crustal Structure Beneath the Young Amagmatic Rukwa‐Tanganyika Rift Zone

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract The Rukwa‐Tanganyika Rift Zone (RTRZ), experiencing multiphase rifting, forms the nonvolcanic southern part of the Western Branch of the East African Rift. We investigate the crustal structure beneath the RTRZ to understand how strain migrates beneath multiphase rifts.

The Inter‐Cratonic Neoproterozoic Katangan Basin of Central Africa: Rift Basin Formation, Orogenic Inversion and Potential Fluid Pathways

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract The tectono‐stratigraphic development of continental basins is critical to an understanding of continental tectonics and the formation of metal deposits. The Neoproterozoic, inter‐cratonic Katangan copper basin of Central Africa records a tectono‐stratigraphic evolution and the generation of potential metal transporting fluid pathways ...

Coexistence through sustainable conservation strategies for sitatunga Tragelaphus spekii in African ecosystems

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, January 2025.
Sitatunga Tragelaphus spekii is an antelope species adapted to the dense swamps and marshes of Sub‐Saharan Africa, where traditional population survey techniques have been ineffective and encountered difficulties in making estimations. The species formerly occurred alongside waterways throughout the lowland forest zone of West and central Africa ...

Length–Weight Relationship, Length–Length Relationship, and Relative Condition Factors of Three Ecologically Important Fish Species From Lake Hawassa, Ethiopia

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ichthyology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Length–weight relationship (LWRs), length–length relationships (LLRs), and relative condition factor (Kn) are fundamental biological indices for fisheries stock assessment, sustainable management, and monitoring ecosystem health. This study determined the LWRs, LLRs, and Kn of three ecologically important fish species: the straightfin barb Enteromius ...

Geochemistry and isotopic evolution of the central African Domes, Bangweulu and Irumide regions : evidence for cryptic Archean sources and a Paleoproterozoic continental arc

open access: yes, 2014
The interregional cratonic relations between the Paleo- and Mesoproterozoic basement units surrounding the Neoproterozoic Central African Copperbelt are still largely unresolved, although they are regarded as major potential metal sources.

Quantifying Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex) habitat suitability in the Bangweulu Wetlands, Zambia

open access: yes, 2013
A quantitative analysis of suitable habitat for the Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), a large waterbird confined to African swamps, was conducted by using a combination of aerial photographs and a previously determined habitat suitability model from the ...
