Bank lending channel and monetary policy in Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yesResearch in International Business and Finance, 2018
We find that the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) policy of consolidation and restructuring from 2002 to 2008 strengthened the bank lending channel (BLC). We use the Generalised Method of Moments (GMM) two step estimator to test the existence of the BLC using a sample of 23 banks.

The Bank Lending Channel Reconsidered [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2009
It has been widely accepted that constraints on the wholesale funding of bank balance sheets amplify the transmission of monetary policy through what is called the 'bank lending channel'. We show that the effect of such bank balance sheet constraints on monetary transmission is in fact theoretically ambiguous, with the prior expectation, based on ...

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2020
Using credit-registry data for Spain and Peru, we document that four main types of commercial credit—asset-based loans, cash flow loans, trade finance and leasing—are easily identifiable and represent the bulk of corporate credit. We show that credit growth dynamics and bank lending channels vary across these loan types.

FOREIGN BANKS AND THE BANK LENDING CHANNEL [PDF]

open access: yesEconomic Inquiry, 2018
We provide new evidence on bank ownership and transmission of monetary policy using bank‐level data on 453 banks in Central and Eastern European economies between 1998 and 2012. Only domestic banks adjust loans to changes in monetary policy, while foreign banks do not. Conventional wisdom says that this is because foreign banks can rely on parent banks'
