The design of HMM-based banknote recognition system

2009 IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Intelligent Systems, 2009
The banknote recognition system based on hidden Markov models (HMM) is proposed. It is based on the empirical risk minimization (ERM) principle. Image preprocessing includes brightness equalization and tilt correction. In order to satisfy the high speed and reliability of the banknote processing system, the grid segmentation is used for features ...

Counterfeit Detection and Value Recognition of Euro Banknotes

Proceedings of the International Conference on Computer Vision Theory and Applications, 2013
This paper describes both hardware and software components to detect counterfeits of Euro banknotes. The system is also able to recognize the banknote values. The proposed method makes use of images acquired with near infrared camera and works without mechanical parts. This makes the overall system low-cost.

Vision Based System for Banknote Recognition Using Different Machine Learning and Deep Learning Approach

Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium, 2019
Visually impaired people faced a problem in identifying and recognizing the different types of banknote due to some reasons. This problem draws researchers’ attention to introduce an automated banknote recognition system that can be divided into a vision-

Haar-SVM for Real-time Banknotes Recognition

Journal of Information and Computational Science, 2014
Haar wavelet is the simplest possible wavelet, and Support Vector Machine (SVM) is an efiective classifler. This paper proposes a new method that combines the Haar wavelet and SVM for the flrst time to solve the problem of small denomination banknotes recognition with small computations, real timing and excellent performance.

New recognition algorithm for various kinds of Euro banknotes

IECON'03. 29th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37468), 2004
Counters for the various kinds of banknotes require high-speed distinctive point extraction and recognition. In this paper, we propose a new point extraction and recognition algorithm for banknotes. For distinctive point extraction we use a coordinate data extraction method from specific parts of a banknote representing the same color.

On the design of embedded solutions to banknote recognition

Optical Engineering, 2013
Banknote recognition systems have many applications in the modern world of automatic monetary transaction machines. They are tradi- tionally based on simple classifiers applied over manually selected areas. A new solution in this field, borrowed by content-based image retrieval (CBIR), which is based on dense scale-invariant feature transform fea ...

On the Possibilities of Using Traditional Pattern Recognition Techniques in Brazilian Banknote Characterization

International Conference on Systems, Signals, and Image Processing
In Brazil there are seven kinds of banknotes where each one has a specific color associated to its correspondent value. Analysing the Brazilian banknote design, one can see that there are many different regions.

Real-Time Recognition of Series Seven New Zealand Banknotes

International Journal of Digital Crime and Forensics, 2018
This article proposes an effective method for real-time banknote recognition, using digital image processing. The new Series 7 New Zealand banknotes are considered, as a case study, for intelligent real-time recognition. The composite feature of a banknote containing the elements of color and texture is extracted, and a three-layer back-propagation ...

Bangladeshi banknote recognition by neural network with axis symmetrical masks

2007 10th international conference on computer and information technology, 2007
Automated banknote recognition system can be a very good utility in banking systems and other field of commerce. It can also aid visually impaired people. Although in Bangladesh, bill money recognition machines are not common but it is used in other countries. In this paper, for the first time, we have proposed a Neural Network based recognition scheme
