Heart‐Specific Spinal and Vagal Afferents: Transcriptomic Signatures and Optogenetically Modulated Functional Coupling With Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
Selective purification of heart‐specific spinal and vagal sensory neurons by retrograde labeling and FACS purification showed enhanced spontaneous, optogenetic, and chemically stimulated Ca2+ activity. Transcriptomic profiling identified distinct ion channel and GPCR signatures in heart‐specific sensory neurons.

Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation of Chiral Urea and Thiourea Derivatives as Multitarget‐Directed Anti‐Alzheimer Agents

open access: yesDrug Development Research, Volume 87, Issue 5, August 2026.
ABSTRACT A series of novel chiral urea and thiourea compounds were designed as multitarget‐directed ligands for Alzheimer's disease and evaluated against hAChE, hBChE, and hMAO‐B, with exploratory assessment of HSD10. These chiral compounds were synthesized and fully characterized, and their enantiopurity was confirmed via HPLC.

Electrodeposited Cobalt Bis(pyridylimino)isoindolide Complex on Graphite: Synthesis, Characterization, and Electrocatalytic Activity Toward Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesEnergy Technology, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Cobalt incorporation into a benzimidazole‐based framework transforms its hydrogen evolution performance, delivering enhanced current density, lower overpotential, and faster charge–transfer kinetics. Structural, spectroscopic, morphologic, compositional, and electrochemical analyses reveal a synergistic metal–ligand effect that promotes efficient ...

Influence of Cocoa Liquor Origin on Cocoa Butter Composition and Color, Texture, and Rheological Properties of Milk and Dark Chocolates: A Preliminary Study

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
This study compared cocoa liquors from Ecuador, Ghana, and Côte d'Ivoire and evaluated their effects on the color, textural, and rheological properties of milk and dark chocolates. The results showed that cocoa origin influenced cocoa liquor characteristics and contributed to differences in chocolate quality.

Astrocytic mGluR5 Regulation of Synaptic Transmission is Activity‐Dependent in Adult Rats

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 8, August 2026.
In adulthood, astrocytic mGluR5 increases synaptic efficacy through presynaptic A2ARs. This occurs when a small number of synapses are activated simultaneously. This pathway is abolished when numerous synapses are recruited. ABSTRACT Data accumulated over the last two decades have demonstrated that astrocytes play key roles in the regulation of ...
