Reference dependence and lottery participation
Economic Inquiry, EarlyView.Abstract We assume that lottery participants are poor relative to their target income. Reference dependence with loss aversion can render the marginal utility of income non‐monotonic in line with the Friedman–Savage hypothesis. As a result, lottery participation can be rationalized without invoking probability weighting.

European Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.Abstract Spinoza repeatedly suggests that humans are set apart from other animals by their rational and moral abilities. Yet he disparages the traditional definition of the human as a ‘rational animal’ and several of his other views suggest that these abilities are not sufficient by themselves to characterize human nature.

Beyond Brunhild: reassessing women in the Fredegar Chronicle
Early Medieval Europe, EarlyView.Scholarly consideration of women in the seventh‐century Fredegar chronicle has long been dominated by the author’s hostility towards Brunhild, queen of Austrasia. Statistical analysis of Latin world chronicles before ad 900, however, shows that Fredegar’s representation of women was unusually high within this tradition.
