The Variable Impact of Heinrich Events on the Benthic Environment of the Porcupine Abyssal Plain

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 41, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Heinrich events (HEs) are Pleistocene climate disturbances caused by massive freshwater discharges from the Laurentide Ice Sheet via the Hudson Strait. They appear in marine sediments as layers of ice‐rafted detritus (IRD) and significantly impact the benthic environment.

ENRICHMENT OF MASSIVE SULFIDES FROM THE SEMENOV HYDROTHERMAL CLUSTER (MID-ATLANTIC RIDGE) IN BARITE: A RESULT OF E-MORB INVOLVEMENT AND MAGMATIC CONTRIBUTION [PDF]

open access: yesМинералогия
The paper reviews and compares the barite findings in hydrothermal fields of the midoceanic ridges. The genetic significance of barite is considered for the Semenov hydrothermal sulfide cluster associated with an oceanic core complex (OCC) at 13°30′ N of

Evaluation of Barium Sulfate (Barite) Solubility Using Different Chelating Agents at a High Temperature [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Science and Technology, 2017
Barium sulfate (barite) is one of the widely used weighting materials in the preparation of drilling fluid for deep oil and gas wells. Barite is not soluble in the regular solvents; such as, hydrochloric acid (HCl) and other acids.

Integrating Sr isotopes, microchemistry, and genetics to reconstruct Salmonidae species and life history

open access: yesArchaeometry, Volume 68, Issue S2, Page S104-S129, May 2026.
Abstract Recent approaches to fisheries research emphasize the importance of the coproduction of knowledge in building resilient and culturally mindful fisheries management frameworks. Despite widespread recognition of the need for Indigenous knowledge and historical reference points as baseline data, archaeological data are rarely included in ...

Barite from the Upper Idrijca River valley (W Slovenia)

open access: yesGeologija, 2002
The Carnian – Julian beds exposed at the Tratnik landslide location in the Upper Idrijca River valley are of various lithology. Mudstones, shales and fine-grained sandtones prevail, containing lenses of micritic limestone and quartz conglomerate.

Enhancing the Reactivity of Dicalcium Silicate Using Aluminum and Sulfur Ions Co‐Doping

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Belite‐rich cements are a lower‐energy and lower‐CO2 alternative to Portland cements, but the low hydraulic activity of belite remains a major limitation. This study explores the impact of aluminum and sulfur co‐doping on the structure and hydration of synthetic dicalcium silicate (C2S).

Geological Characteristics, Distribution Patterns and Genesis Analysis of Hydrothermal Barite Deposits in Kaili Area, Guizhou Province

open access: yesKuangchan zonghe liyong
[Objective] The Kaili Area in Guizhou Province, as one of the main distribution areas of hydrothermal barite deposits in Guizhou, has significant economic value and scientific research significance for its hydrothermal barite deposits. However, there are

The effect of terrestrial weathering on the mineralogy and petrologic (sub)types of CM chondrites explored by kinetic modeling and laboratory experiments

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 61, Issue 5, Page 874-897, May 2026.
Abstract Terrestrial weathering alters the chemical and isotopic composition, and mineralogy, of meteorites; its effects on ordinary chondrites are well‐studied, but relatively little is known about the susceptibility of carbonaceous chondrites. We combined laboratory experiments, whereby Chwichiya 002 (C3‐ung find), Murchison (CM2 fall) and Kolang ...

Barium and its Importance as an Indicator of (Paleo)Productivity

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
Barium (Ba) is a trace element which occurs predominantly as barite mineral (BaSO4) in the marine environment. Previous work suggests that barite concentrations are related to the organic carbon flux and marine biological debris in the water column ...
