Restoration and Transformation: The Response of Shocked and Oxidized Magnetite to Temperature

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 129, Issue 2, February 2024.
Abstract Large impact craters on Earth are associated with prominent magnetic anomalies, residing in magnetite of the shocked target rocks and impactites. Shock experiments on magnetite suggest that up to 90% of magnetic susceptibility is lost at pressures >5 GPa, but can be partially restored by post‐shock thermal annealing.

Magnetic Non-destructive Testing of Plastically Deformed Mild Steel

open access: yesAdvances in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2004
The Barkhausen noise analysis and coercive field measurement have been used as magnetic non-destructive testing methods for plastically deformed high quality carbon steel specimens.

Barkhausen Noise Assessment of the Surface Conditions Due to Deep Hole Drilling and Their Influence on the Fatigue Behaviour of AISI 4140

open access: yesMetals, 2018
In many technical fields, high-strength steels like AISI 4140 are commonly used for highly dynamically loaded parts. Increasing demands on weight, performance and efficiency of the automotive industry lead to increasing demands on material properties ...

A Key Contribution for Concrete Durability: Harnessing Force‐Magnetic Coupling for Stress State Detection in Reinforced Concrete Beams

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Over the past 20 years, more than 200 major bridge‐collapsed accidents have occurred during their service life. The durability of reinforced concrete (RC) beams is a serious threat to the safety performance of the structures. To accurately grasp the service performance of RC beams, a four‐point bending loading experiment was conducted on RC rectangular

Correlations of triggering noise in driven magnetic clusters

open access: yes, 2000
We show that the temporal fluctuations $\Delta H(t)$ of the threshold driving field $H(t)$, which triggers an avalanche in slowly driven disordered ferromagnets with many domains, exhibit long-range correlations in space and time.

Fatigue Assessment of Quenched and Tempered Steels Based on Temperature and Micro-Magnetic Measurements

open access: yesResearch and Review Journal of Nondestructive Testing
Magnetic Barkhausen Noise measurements are advantageous for the fatigue characterisation of ferromagnetic materials since they can provide information regarding microstructure, residual stresses, hardness and the presence of microstructural defects. The

Research on the Orthogonal Fundamental Mode Fluxgate Sensor Circuit

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Currently, magnetic fluxgate circuits used for magnetic field measurements mostly adopt parallel excitation second harmonic generation. The magnetic fluxgate developed by this method cannot possess both low noise and high bandwidth at the same time.

Thermodynamics as a nonequilibrium path integral

open access: yes, 2010
Thermodynamics is a well developed tool to study systems in equilibrium but no such general framework is available for non-equilibrium processes. Only hope for a quantitative description is to fall back upon the equilibrium language as often done in ...

Avalanches in mean-field models and the Barkhausen noise in spin-glasses

open access: yes, 2010
We obtain a general formula for the distribution of sizes of "static avalanches", or shocks, in generic mean-field glasses with replica-symmetry-breaking saddle points.

Atomistic Simulations of Magnetic Amorphous Solids: Magnetostriction, Barkhausen noise and novel singularities

open access: yes, 2013
We present results of atomistic simulations of a new model of a magnetic amorphous solid subjected to external mechanical strains and magnetic fields.
