Psychiatric Morbidity Is Overrepresented in Young Girls at High Risk of Developing Anorexia Nervosa

open access: yesInternational Journal of Eating Disorders, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Psychiatric comorbidity frequently presents in anorexia nervosa (AN). Yet, the premorbid mental health status is relatively unknown. The aim of this study was to map out psychiatric morbidity and psychopathology among girls at familial high risk (FHR) of developing AN, thereby detecting possible underlying vulnerabilities preceding ...

Climate‐driven resource availability drives medium‐ and broad‐scale temporal changes in owl–prey interactions over 24 years in a semi‐arid ecosystem

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Predator–prey interactions are vital to ecosystem functioning but may be disrupted by climate change. We investigated a food‐web network involving three owl species over 24 years in a semi‐arid ecosystem at Bosque Fray Jorge National Park, Chile.

Cation Distribution in Li2CaSiO4:Gd, Pr, Na Uncovered Through Anomalous Diffraction

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Li2CaSiO4 co‐doped with Gd3+ and Pr3+ shows strong blue‐to‐UV‐B up‐conversion. Herein, we explore the doping element distribution in order to discern the reason for the strongly supportive co‐doping effect using high‐resolution Rietveld refinement and multiple‐edge anomalous dispersion measurements.

By‐product of heparin extraction as a sustainable alternative to enhance the use of nitrogen in agriculture

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract This study evaluates the potential of a new organic fertilizer derived from porcine intestinal mucosa (designated BHE), a by‐product of the heparin extraction process, as a sustainable nitrogen (N) source for agriculture. The work was conducted in two stages: (i) chemical and spectroscopic characterization of BHE compared with poultry litter ...

Air pollution exposure during training impairs performance in Thoroughbred racehorses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Ambient air pollution contributes substantially to human morbidity and mortality, and athletes are recognised as a particularly vulnerable group. However, little is known about the impact of air pollution on equine athletes. Objectives To explore the relationship between air pollution exposure during the pre‐competition training ...

Cross‐protective effect of a multicomponent fusion protein vaccine during a natural episode of Streptococcus zooepidemicus respiratory disease in ponies

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Streptococcus equi subspecies zooepidemicus is a highly diverse opportunistic pathogen of horses, associated with respiratory disease and endometritis. Objectives To characterise S. zooepidemicus isolates recovered from young ponies during a natural episode of respiratory disease, and to determine if vaccination with Strangvac®, a ...

Using a wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) patch adapted for 7‐day monitoring in the horse

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Arrhythmias can cause poor performance and sudden death in horses. Long‐term (>24 h) electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring has been used to identify arrhythmias in humans and is superior to short‐term monitoring for transient arrhythmia detection. Televet is the current equine gold‐standard ECG device. The Cardea SOLO™ (CS) is a single‐
