Barocaloric effect in a Gay-Berne liquid crystal

open access: yesPhysical Review E
A coarse-grained molecular Monte Carlo simulation of the barocaloric effect in a model Gay-Berne liquid crystal is presented, following the so-called indirect approach wherein the caloric response is obtained from thermodynamic arguments applied to the simulated equilibrium relation between pressure, density, and temperature.

Demonstration of liquid crystal for barocaloric cooling application

open access: yes, 2016
Current vapor-compression technology is based on the gas-liquid transition of hazardous gas. The alternative cooling technology focuses on the solid caloric material. A new liquid barocaloric material, i.e. the liquid crystal, is proved to be potential for cooling application primarily (based on other literatures).

Advancements in Antiperovskite Structured Solids: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics
Antiperovskite-structured solids are attracting growing attention as a new class of multifunctional materials. Unlike conventional perovskites, their inverted cubic framework gives rise to unusual and highly tunable properties, from fast-ion conduction ...

Giant barocaloric effects in sodium hexafluorophosphate and hexafluoroarsenate

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics
Solid-state refrigeration using barocaloric materials is environmentally friendly and highly efficient, making it a subject of global interest over the past decade. Here, we report giant barocaloric effects in sodium hexafluorophosphate (NaPF6) and sodium hexafluoroarsenate (NaAsF6) that both undergo a cubic-to-rhombohedral phase transition near room ...

Corrigendum: Landau theory of barocaloric plastic crystals (2024 J. Phys. Energy 6 035003)

open access: yesJPhys Energy
We have identified an algebraic error in equation (2), derived from the minimization of the free energy density G with respect to the strain ε . While this error affects the renormalized parameters of the model, it does not alter the subsequent results ...
