Advanced materials for solid-state refrigeration
Recent progress on caloric effects are reviewed. The application of external stimuli such as magnetic field, hydrostatic pressure, uniaxial stress and electric field give rise respectively to magnetocaloric, barocaloric, elastocaloric and electrocaloric ...

Elastocaloric response of PbTiO3 predicted from a first-principles effective Hamiltonian [PDF]
A first-principles based effective Hamiltonian is used within a molecular dynamics simulation to study the elastocaloric effect in PbTiO3. It is found that the transition temperature is a linear function of uniaxial tensile stress.

Barocaloric effect in the magnetocaloric prototype Gd5Si2Ge2
We report on calorimetric measurements under hydrostatic pressure that enabled us to determine the barocaloric effect in Gd5Si2Ge2. The values for the entropy change for moderate pressures compare favourably to those corresponding to the magnetocaloric effect in this compound.

Martensitic Transformation and Barocaloric Effect in Co-V-Ga-Fe Paramagnetic Heusler Alloy
In the present study, polycrystalline Co50V34Ga16−xFex (1≤x≤2) quaternary Heusler alloys were fabricated by the arc-melting method. It was found that they undergo a paramagnetic martensitic transformation (MT) from the L21-type cubic austenitic structure

The anomalous Hall effect in non-collinear antiferromagnetic Mn$_{3}$NiN thin films [PDF]
We have studied the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in strained thin films of the frustrated antiferromagnet Mn$_{3}$NiN. The AHE does not follow the conventional relationships with magnetization or longitudinal conductivity and is enhanced relative to that ...

Flexoelectric Elastomer Enabled by Miscibility‐Driven Succinonitrile Molecular Rotation
A flexoelectric material platform is developed by embedding polar plastic crystals into polymer networks. By tuning the microstructure and preserving molecular rotation, strain gradient‐induced polarization is achieved. The resulting elastomer shows scalable and tunable electromechanical output under mechanical deformation, offering a new design route ...

Multisite Exchange-Enhanced Barocaloric Response in Mn_{3}NiN
We study the barocaloric effect (BCE) in the geometrically frustrated antiferromagnet Mn_{3}NiN across the Néel transition temperature. Experimentally, we find a larger barocaloric entropy change by a factor of 1.6 than that recently discovered in the ...
