Tunability of the spin reorientation transitions with pressure in NdCo5 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We present pressure-dependent magnetization measurements carried out in the domain of the spin reorientation transitions (SRTs) of a NdCo5 single crystal. The application of a hydrostatic pressure leads to a shift in the SRTs to higher temperatures. This

Caloric effects of quantum materials: An outlook

open access: yesPhysics Open, 2020
Solid-state cooling is an emerging technology embracing cryogenic and near room temperature devices. For further developments of this machinery, prototypes and caloric materials must be optimized in order to obtain a better final result than the well ...

Enhancing the Heat Transfer in an Active Barocaloric Cooling System Using Ethylene-Glycol Based Nanofluids as Secondary Medium

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Barocaloric cooling is classified as environmentally friendly because of the employment of solid-state materials as refrigerants. The reference and well-established processes are based on the active barocaloric regenerative refrigeration cycle, where the

Thermodynamics of multicaloric effects in multiferroic materials; application to metamagnetic shape memory alloys and ferrotoroidics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We develop a general thermodynamic framework to investigate multicaloric effects in multiferroic materials. This is applied to the study of both magnetostructural and magnetoelectric multiferroics.

Giant and reversible inverse barocaloric effects near room temperature in ferromagnetic MnCoGeB0.03 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Hydrostatic pressure represents an inexpensive and practical method of driving caloric effects in brittle magnetocaloric materials, which display first-order magnetostructural phase transitions whose large latent heats are traditionally accessed using ...

Features of the Behavior of the Barocaloric Effect near Ferroelectric Phase Transition Close to the Tricritical Point

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
A detailed study of the effect of temperature and pressure on heat capacity, entropy and hysteresis phenomena near the ferroelectric phase transition in ammonium sulfate (AS) was performed.

Barocaloric effect in the magnetocaloric prototype Gd5Si2Ge2

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2012
We report on calorimetric measurements under hydrostatic pressure that enabled us to determine the barocaloric effect in Gd5Si2Ge2. The values for the entropy change for moderate pressures compare favourably to those corresponding to the magnetocaloric effect in this compound.
