Hydrodynamical simulations of the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1097 [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2012
AbstractNGC 1097 is a nearby barred spiral galaxy believed to be interacting with the elliptical galaxy NGC 1097A located to its northwest. It hosts a Seyfert 1 nucleus surrounded by a circumnuclear starburst ring. Two straight dust lanes connected to the ring extend almost continuously out to the bar.

Molecular Bars in Spiral Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1996
Images of molecular gas in spiral galaxies show two types of bar structure: large-scale bars, which are correlated with the presence of stellar bars, and generally follow the spiral structure, and nuclear “bars” of a few hundred parsecs in size, which show no direct correlation with the presence of a stellar bar.

CO OBSERVATIONS OF BARRED SPIRAL GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of The Korean Astronomical Society, 2006
We present the results of a highly sensitive ( mK rms) survey toward the central parts of 22 barred spiral galaxies in line using the NRAO 12m telescope at Kitt Peak. Seven of the target galaxies were detected in CO; NGC 3686 has been detected with CO for the first time. We estimated central CO fluxes of and molecular gas masses of for those galaxies.

Asymptotic orbits in barred spiral galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2010
We study the formation of the spiral structure of barred spiral galaxies, using an $N$-body model. The evolution of this $N$-body model in the adiabatic approximation maintains a strong spiral pattern for more than 10 bar rotations. We find that this longevity of the spiral arms is mainly due to the phenomenon of stickiness of chaotic orbits close to ...

The SVP–FRO6 Module Integrates the Control of Leaf Senescence and Flowering in Arabidopsis

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 9, Page 7191-7209, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Plants coordinate major developmental transitions by integrating intrinsic genetic programs with environmental signals, where nutrient availability serves as a critical external factor shaping growth and fitness. Iron (Fe), an essential micronutrient for cellular respiration and photosynthesis, is strictly regulated through sophisticated ...

What determines the sizes of bars in spiral galaxies? [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2019
ABSTRACT I use volume- and mass-limited subsamples and recently published data from the Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S4G) to investigate how the size of bars depends on galaxy properties. The known correlation between bar semimajor axis a and galaxy stellar mass (or luminosity) is actually bimodal: for $\log \, (M_ ...

ALMA FACTS. III. High-resolution CO(2–1)/CO(1–0) Maps of Twelve Nearby Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present early results from a high-resolution analysis (∼100–200 pc) of the CO(2–1)/CO(1–0) line ratio in 12 nearby galaxies. We use new Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) CO(1–0) observations from the Fundamental CO(1–0) Transition ...

Normal Spiral Grand-Design Morphologies in Self-Consistent N-Body Models

open access: yesGalaxies
Grand-design spiral structures typically emerge in N-body simulations of disk galaxies as barred-spiral configurations forming during the early evolutionary stages of the system.

Solvent‐Guided Chiral Assemblies and Chemical Doping of OEG‐Functionalized Conjugated Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 45, 13 August 2026.
Solvent‐dependent aggregation pathways dictate whether conjugated polymers form chiral lyotropic liquid‐crystalline assemblies or achiral packed aggregates. Mapping solvent‐controlled β₁ and β2 states reveals that weaker backbone association favors β₁ aggregates and reorganizable twisted mesophases, whereas stronger backbone association favors β2 ...

Discovery of a Barred-spiral Galaxy at zspec = 3.16. I. Bar Identification and Properties

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The formation of stellar bars is an important milestone in the secular evolution of spiral galaxies, which typically indicates the presence of a massive rotationally supported disk.
