Dynamically Driven Evolution of Molecular Gas in the Barred Spiral Galaxy M83 Traced by CO J = 2–1/1–0 Line Ratio Variations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We show the variations of the CO J = 2–1/1–0 line ratio ( R _21/10 ) across the barred spiral galaxy M83, using the 46 pc resolution data from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. The R _21/10 map clearly evidences the systematic large-scale

Molecular Gas Kinematics in Barred Spiral Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
To quantify the effect that bar driven mass inflow can have on the evolution of a galaxy requires an understanding of the dynamics of the inflowing gas.

Characterization of Pilin A and Thioredoxin A Mutant Strains of Acinetobacter baumannii, From a Transposon Insertion Library, for Pili Production and Virulence‐Associated Properties

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 6, December 2025.
Acinetobacter baumannii transposon insertion mutant strains ΔpilA and ΔtrxA display marked reductions of surface pili. The PilA (a major pilin protein) and TrxA (thioredoxin A) deficient bacteria also show attenuation in pathogenesis including the reduction of intestinal bacterial attachment, increased phagocytic uptake and decreased mortality from ...

The Abundance and Properties of Barred Galaxies out to z ∼ 4 Using JWST CEERS Data

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the first estimate of the observed fraction and properties of bars out to z  ∼ 4 using JWST CEERS NIRCam images. We analyze 1770 galaxies with M _⋆  > 10 ^10 M _⊙ at 0.5 ≤ z ≤ 4 and identify barred galaxies from 839 moderately inclined disk ...

Betaine‐Conjugated ß‐Peptide Foldamers: Influence of Quaternary Charge on Self‐Organization and MorphologyFormation

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 14, Issue 12, December 2025.
N‐terminal betaine conjugation modifies β‐peptide helices, influencing folding and self‐organization. For [1S, 2S]‐ACPC, folding to an H12 helix was unaffected, while [1R, 2R]‐ACHC formed an H14 helix instead of H10. Alternating heterochiral oligomers made of enantiomeric pairs of trans‐ACPC showed enhanced solubility and E‐strand formation.

Unveiling a Hidden Bar-like Structure in NGC 1087: Kinematic and Photometric Evidence Using MUSE/VLT, ALMA, and JWST

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report a faint nonaxisymmetric structure in NGC 1087 through the use of James Webb Space Telescope Near Infrared Camera, with an associated kinematic counterpart observed as an oval distortion in the stellar velocity map, H α , and CO J = 2 → 1 ...

Statistical Study of the Star Formation Efficiency in Bars: Is Star Formation Suppressed in Gas-rich Bars?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The dependence of the star formation efficiency (SFE) on galactic structures—especially whether the SFE in the bar region is lower than those in other regions—has recently been debated. We report the SFEs of 18 nearby gas-rich massive star-forming barred

The Illustris Simulation: Supermassive Black Hole - Galaxy Connection Beyond the Bulge

open access: yes, 2017
We study the spiral arm morphology of a sample of the local spiral galaxies in the Illustris simulation and explore the supermassive black hole - galaxy connection beyond the bulge (e.g., spiral arm pitch angle, total stellar mass, dark matter mass, and ...

Groundwater Microbial Diversity Associated With Icelandic Basaltic Subsurface Environments

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 6, December 2025.
Overview of microbial diversity and environmental drivers in Icelandic deep basaltic aquifers. Using 16S rRNA gene metabarcoding across 22 geothermal wells spanning broad temperature, pH, and bedrock‐age gradients, the study reveals distinct bacterial and archaeal community structures shaped by temperature, pH, and host‐rock reactivity.
