The impact of bars and interactions on optically selected AGNs in spiral galaxies

open access: yes, 2018
Aims. With the aim of performing a suitable comparison of the internal process of galactic bars with respect to the external effect of interactions on driving gas toward the inner most region of the galaxies, we explored the efficiency of both mechanisms

Comparison of Bar Formation Mechanisms. I. Does a Tidally Induced Bar Rotate Slower than an Internally Induced Bar?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Galactic bars can form via the internal bar instability or external tidal perturbations by other galaxies. We systematically compare the properties of the bars formed through the two mechanisms with a series of controlled N -body simulations that form ...

Is NGC 4631 a barred spiral galaxy?

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1991
High- and low-dispersion optical spectra of the giant H II region CM 67 near the center of the edge-on galaxy NGC 4631 have been obtained. Comparisons are made with radio observations to suggest the existence of a large bar in NGC 4631. Region CM 67 is shown to coincide in position with the easternmost peak of a triple radio-continuum source.

Rings and spiral arms: are they coupled with bars? [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union (S355), 2020, 2019
Rings and spiral arms are distinctive features of many galaxies, and their properties are closely related to the disk dynamics. They are often associated to stellar bars, but the details of this connection are far from clear. We study the pitch angles of spiral arms and the frequency and dimensions of inner and outer rings as a function of disk ...

Do Strong Bars Exhibit Strong Noncircular Motions?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Galactic bars induce characteristic motions deviating from pure circular rotation, known as noncircular motions. As bars are nonaxisymmetric structures, stronger bars are expected to show stronger noncircular motions.

Stellar Populations, Bars and Secular Evolution in Late-Type Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We have done a robust statistical analysis of UBV color profiles of 257 Sbc barred and unbarred galaxies. We found that there is an excess of barred galaxies among the objects with null or positive (bluish inward) color gradients, which seems to indicate

Molecular Gas in the Edge-On Galaxy NGC 4013 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Our OVRO observations at 300 pc resolution of the molecular gas disk in the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 4013 show no evidence for extraplanar material at our sensitivity limit.

Stellar Populations in the Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 4900 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present OASIS observations obtained at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope for the SB(rs)c galaxy NGC 4900. About 800 spectra in the wavelength range 4700-5500 AA and 6270- 7000 AA have been collected with a spatial resolution of ~50 pc. This galaxy is

Surface photometry of barred spiral galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1990
