Evidence of a Cloud–Cloud Collision from Overshooting Gas in the Galactic Center
The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy with bar lanes that bring gas toward the Galactic center. Gas flowing along these bar lanes often overshoots, and instead of accreting onto the Central Molecular Zone (CMZ), it collides with the bar lane on the ...

Unique starch biosynthesis pathways in wild rice revealed by multi‐omics analyses
Summary Australian wild rice species (AWS) possess unique starch properties characterized by a slow digestibility rate. However, the genomic and transcriptomic variations of starch‐synthesis‐related genes (SSRGs) influencing starch physiochemical properties in AWS remain unclear.

The CO-to-H _2 conversion factor ( α _CO ) is central to measuring the amount and properties of molecular gas. It is known to vary with environmental conditions, and previous studies have revealed lower α _CO in the centers of some barred galaxies on ...

Plasticity of the heart in response to changes in physical activity
Abstract figure legend The heart adapts to changes in physical activity, with inactivity (e.g. bed rest or spaceflight) causing cardiac atrophy and ventricular stiffening, and endurance exercise training leading to eccentric hypertrophy and improved ventricular compliance.

CO OBSERVATIONS OF BARRED SPIRAL GALAXIES [PDF]
We present the results of a highly sensitive ( mK rms) survey toward the central parts of 22 barred spiral galaxies in line using the NRAO 12m telescope at Kitt Peak. Seven of the target galaxies were detected in CO; NGC 3686 has been detected with CO for the first time. We estimated central CO fluxes of and molecular gas masses of for those galaxies.

Identification and Analysis of Galactic Bars in DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys
We present a comprehensive study of bar structures in the local universe using data from the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys. Through isophotal analysis of 232,142 galaxies, we identify bars and classify them into strong and weak categories based on ...

Effects of Magnetic Fields on Gas Dynamics and Star Formation in Nuclear Rings
Nuclear rings at the centers of barred galaxies are known to be strongly magnetized. To explore the effects of magnetic fields on star formation in these rings and nuclear gas flows, we run magnetohydrodynamic simulations in which there is a temporally ...

Summary Drought stress imposes severe challenges on agriculture by impacting crop performance. Understanding drought responses in plants at a cellular level is a crucial first step toward engineering improved drought resilience. However, the molecular responses to drought are complex as they depend on multiple factors, including the severity of drought,

Impacts of Bar-driven Shear and Shocks on Star Formation
Bars drive gas inflow. As the gas flows inward, shocks and shear occur along the bar dust lanes. Such shocks and shear can affect the star formation (SF) and change the gas properties.

Large-scale bars can fuel galaxy centers with molecular gas, often leading to the development of dense ringlike structures where intense star formation occurs, forming a very different environment compared to galactic disks.
