Plate-Load-Tests on Soil from the Barreiras Formation in Maceió-AI – Case Study

2015
This paper presents an analysis of plate-load test results, performed on a typical soil formation from the Northeast Region of Brazil known as Barreiras Formation, in Maceió – AL. The ground investigation indicated a predominantly clay soil, with an incidence of silt, and in parts of the site a low soil strength was registered ...

Structural and petrophysical evolution of extensional fault zones in low-porosity, poorly lithified sandstones of the Barreiras Formation, NE Brazil

Journal of Structural Geology, 2010
Abstract We describe the structural and petrophysical evolution of extensional fault zones developed in low porosity, poorly lithified, quartz-dominated sandstones from the Mio-Pliocene continental Barreiras Formation, NE Brazil. We studied eight fault zones developed as sands were lithified. Fault displacement ranges from a few centimetres to ∼50 m.

Characterization of subsurface fault in Barreiras Aquifer Formation from geoelectrical and hydrogeological data - area of River Catu basin, NE Brazil

13th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society & EXPOGEF, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 26–29 August 2013, 2013
This work refers to the studies developed in the area of River Catu basin, located in northeastern Brazil. The main objective was to characterize subsurface fault throw within the basin of the River Catu, southern coast of Rio Grande do Norte. The general methodology is the use of electric geophysical methods, particularly electrical resistivity ...

Sedimentological characteristics of Paleogene-Neogene fluvial and alluvial fan systems in the onshore portion of Campos Basin, Brazil: Insights from Emborê and Barreiras Formations

This study seeks to reduce gaps in the sedimentological and stratigraphic understanding of the onshore portion of the Campos Basin (Brazil) through lithofacies analysis and paleoenvironmental interpretation of the Emborê and Barreiras formations based on the 2-JU-1-RJ drill core, the second stratigraphic well drilled in the Paraíba do Sul River Deltaic
