Provenance of Neogene deposits of Barreiras Formation in the southeastern Brazilian continental margin

International Journal of Earth Sciences, 2020
The Barreiras Formation records continental-to-shallow–water marine sequences deposited during the Paleogene–Neogene periods in the Brazilian continental margin. In northern Rio de Janeiro and southern Espirito Santo states, the Barreiras Formation preserve alluvial depositional system. The sediments were derived from a source located in the hinterland

Mineralogy, geochemistry, and palynology of modern and late Tertiary mangrove deposits in the Barreiras Formation of Mosqueiro Island, northeastern Pará state, eastern Amazonia

Journal of South American Earth Sciences, 2004
Abstract A coastal environment has been interpreted from 110 cm thick mudstone deposits found at the base of a 10 m immature laterite profile, which forms the modern coastal cliff on Mosqueiro Island in northeastern Para state, northern Brazil. The late Tertiary sediment deposits of the Barreiras Formation are studied by multi-element geochemistry ...

Structural and petrophysical evolution of extensional fault zones in low-porosity, poorly lithified sandstones of the Barreiras Formation, NE Brazil

Journal of Structural Geology, 2010
Abstract We describe the structural and petrophysical evolution of extensional fault zones developed in low porosity, poorly lithified, quartz-dominated sandstones from the Mio-Pliocene continental Barreiras Formation, NE Brazil. We studied eight fault zones developed as sands were lithified. Fault displacement ranges from a few centimetres to ∼50 m.

Plate-Load-Tests on Soil from the Barreiras Formation in Maceió-AI – Case Study

2015
This paper presents an analysis of plate-load test results, performed on a typical soil formation from the Northeast Region of Brazil known as Barreiras Formation, in Maceió – AL. The ground investigation indicated a predominantly clay soil, with an incidence of silt, and in parts of the site a low soil strength was registered ...
