Assessing the effectiveness of texture and color enhancement imaging versus white‐light endoscopy in detecting gastrointestinal lesions: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
Abstract Introduction Gastrointestinal cancers account for 26% of cancer incidence and 35% of cancer‐related deaths globally. Early detection is crucial but often limited by white light endoscopy (WLE), which misses subtle lesions. Texture and color enhancement imaging (TXI), introduced in 2020, enhances texture, brightness, and color, addressing WLE's

Optimizing Storage and Computational Efficiency: An Efficient Algorithm for Whole Slide Image Size Reduction

open access: yesMayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health, 2023
Objective: To efficiently store, transfer, and analyze whole slide imaging (WSI), we developed an image-processing algorithm to remove the unneeded background in a WSI and assemble tissue-containing parts into smaller WSIs without any change in tissue ...

The prevalence of gastric heterotopia of the proximal esophagus is underestimated, but preneoplasia is rare - correlation with Barrett’s esophagus

open access: yesBMC Gastroenterology, 2017
BackgroundThe previously reported prevalence of gastric heterotopia in the cervical esophagus, also termed inlet patch (IP), varies substantially, ranging from 0.18 to 14%.

Hypocalcemia After Thyroidectomy in Patients Taking Proton Pump Inhibitors

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 10, Issue 3, June 2025.
Patients taking proton pump inhibitors may be more likely to experience of short‐term and permanent hypocalcemia after thyroid surgery. The current study is the largest to date, indicating an increased risk of hypocalcemia after thyroidectomy in patients taking proton pump inhibitors.

Clinicopathologic and Molecular Profiles of Microsatellite Unstable Barrett Esophagus-associated Adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Microsatellite instability (MSI) has been reported in various tumors, with colon cancer as the prototype. However, little is known about MSI in Barrett esophagus (BE)-associated adenocarcinoma.

A 3D fully convolutional neural network and a random walker to segment the esophagus in CT [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Precise delineation of organs at risk (OAR) is a crucial task in radiotherapy treatment planning, which aims at delivering high dose to the tumour while sparing healthy tissues. In recent years algorithms showed high performance and the possibility to automate this task for many OAR. However, for some OAR precise delineation remains challenging.

Characteristic, Regulation and Targeting Strategies of Cancer Stem Cells and Their Niche in Digestive System Tumors

open access: yesMedComm – Oncology, Volume 4, Issue 2, June 2025.
Cancer stem cells, characterized by self‐renewal, differentiation, heterogeneity, plasticity and tumorigenicity, are regulated by intrinsic factors such as signaling pathways, transcription factors, metabolism and noncoding RNAs, as well as environmental cells (including tumor cells, immune cells and stromal cells), environmental factors and distant ...

Histopathological Diagnostic Criteria of Barrett Esophagus and Its Association with Endoscopy Findings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background : In the last decades, the incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma has significantly increased. Barrett Esophagus (BE) is widely known as a precursor lession of esophageal adenocarcinoma, and it could increase the risk of adenocarcinoma to 30 ...
