"Barrier Contraceptive Methods and Preeclampsia"
Studies in Family Planning, 1991Recent investigations have suggested that women who use barrier methods of contraception may be at increased risk for preeclampsia. We used data from two prospective pregnancy studies to examine the relationship between contraceptive use before conception and preeclampsia.

Barrier methods of contraception
Nursing Standard, 1990This article reviews that present and latest developments including condoms diaphragms and caps nonoxynol-9 and other spermicides and the Femshield. One of the historical penis protectors was the use in 1564 of a linen sheath coated with lotion to not only protect against insects and disease but specifically against venereal disease.

Methods for the Assessment of Barrier Function
2016Due to the ease of skin accessibility, a large variety of invasive and noninvasive in vitro and in vivo methods have been developed to study barrier function. The measurement of the transepidermal water loss (TEWL) is most widely used in clinical studies.

Barrier contraceptive methods are the oldest type of reversible contraception still available. They work by preventing the egg and the sperm coming into contact with one another, thereby preventing fertilisation. Some barrier contraceptive methods have the added benefit of preventing transmission of sexual infections.

Barrier Methods of Contraception: A Reappraisal
International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, 1979In the last two years, there has been a gradual reawakening of interest in barrier methods and an increase in their usage by both men and women. This is in large part due to concern about the sometimes serious side effects reported for other contraceptive methods.

A logarithm barrier method for linear programming
International Journal of Computer Mathematics, 1999In a previous paper [6] we introduce an algorithm for solving an unconstrained optimization problem based on an iterative process which makes use of higher order derivatives. In this paper we consider the iterative process presented in [6] and prove the cubic convergence of this process.

Barrier methods for equilibrium problems
2017We consider several versions of the barrier method for a general equilibrium problem with nonlinear constraints in a reflexive Banach space setting. We suggest weak coercivity conditions instead of (generalized) monotonicity, including one containing a perturbed barrier function, in order to entail solutions for the equilibrium problem.

Penalty and barrier methods are procedures for approximating constrained optimization problems by unconstrained problems. The approximation is accomplished in the case of penalty methods by adding to the objective function a term that prescribes a high cost for violation of the constraints, and in the case of barrier methods by adding a term that ...

Barrier Functions in Interior Point Methods
Mathematics of Operations Research, 1996We show that the universal barrier function of a convex cone introduced by Nesterov and Nemirovskii is the logarithm of the characteristic function of the cone. This interpretation demonstrates the invariance of the universal barrier under the automorphism group of the underlying cone.
