Tunneling Time in Attosecond Experiments and Time Operator in Quantum Mechanics

open access: yesMathematics, 2018
Attosecond science is of a fundamental interest in physics. The measurement of the tunneling time in attosecond experiments, offers a fruitful opportunity to understand the role of time in quantum mechanics (QM).

Metastable Evolutionary Dynamics: Crossing Fitness Barriers or Escaping via Neutral Paths?

open access: yes, 1999
We analytically study the dynamics of evolving populations that exhibit metastability on the level of phenotype or fitness. In constant selective environments, such metastable behavior is caused by two qualitatively different mechanisms. One the one hand,

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Oscillating bounce solutions and vacuum tunneling in de Sitter spacetime

open access: yes, 2004
We study a class of oscillating bounce solutions to the Euclidean field equations for gravity coupled to a scalar field theory with two, possibly degenerate, vacua. In these solutions the scalar field crosses the top of the potential barrier $k>1$ times.

Unique Performance Considerations for Printable Organic Semiconductor and Perovskite Radiation Detectors: Toward Consensus on Best Practice Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A lack of standard approaches for testing and reporting the performance of metal halide perovskites and organic semiconductor radiation detectors has resulted in inconsistent interpretation of performance parameters, impeding progress in the field. This Perspective recommends key metrics and experimental details, which are suggested for reporting in ...

Intermediate Structures in Fission and Consequences on Average Partial Cross Sections

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
This paper is willing to illustrate and quantify the impact of a double fission barrier in terms of average fission cross section and in particular, to status on both the additional class-II width correction factor and the degree of freedom of the ...

2.34 kV β-Ga2O3 vertical trench RESURF Schottky barrier diode with sub-micron fin width [PDF]

open access: yesAPL Electronic Devices
In this letter, we present a kilovolt-class β-Ga2O3 vertical trench Schottky barrier diode with a field plate incorporating narrow fin width (Wfin) structures of sub-micron dimensions. We used a nanolaminate dielectric comprising a stack of multiple thin

Numerical simulation of hydro-and morfodynamic effects of side channels design parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Four side channel design parameters are analysed by two-dimensionally modelling the extremes with the numerical software package Delft3D. In order to advise how to minimise the maintenance activity dredging in rivers due to the construction of side ...

Thermoelectric Modeling of the Non-Ohmic Differential Conductance in a Tunnel Junction containing a Pinhole

open access: yes, 2003
To test the quality of a tunnel junction, one sometimes fits the bias-dependent differential conductance to a theoretical model, such as Simmons's formula.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...
