Duke Criteria-Negative Endocarditis Caused by Bartonella quintana

Infection, 1999
Bartonella spp. were recently recognized as causative agents of culture-negative endocarditis. Molecular techniques, such as broad-range PCR, are now available to detect fastidious or slow-growing microorganisms, or those which cannot be cultured. Such microorganisms may be responsible for culture-negative endocarditis.

Laboratory maintenance of Bartonella quintana.

Current protocols in microbiology, 2008
Trench fever is the common name for the acute febrile syndrome associated with a Bartonella quintana bacterial infection. The focus of this unit is to describe reliable methods for cultivation and cryopreservation of B. quintana and can be applied to cultivation and preservation of all Bartonella.

Pathogenic mechanisms of Bartonella quintana.

The new microbiologica, 2001
Bartonella quintana is an epi- and intracellular gram-negative rod responsible for both acute and chronic clinical manifestations. We review the literature about pathogenic mechanisms of B. quintana and discuss our data. Our efforts to clarify Bartonella quintana pathogenesis run on two parallel tracks.
