Physics of Baryons

2016
In this lecture, different milestones in the cosmological history of baryons are reviewed. First, the appearance of hadrons as a consequence of the confinement of quarks is discussed. Then the era in which nuclei interact to produce light elements like deuterium, helium and lithium is described.

Baryon-baryon interactions and unitary symmetry

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1964
The baryon-baryon interactions are studied by making use of the octet version of the unitary symmetry model. The bound state Ξ−n in the1S0 state is predicted provided that the symmetry is not violated seriously. The Ξ-n → Σ−Σ0 process occurs only through the space-spin svmmetric state.

Virtual particles and the baryon-baryon system

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1964
The1S0 virtual bound state of the nucleon-nucleon system is shown to belong to the 27-dimensional representation of the symmetry scheme based onSU(3) known as the eight-fold way. The other states of this multiplet are derived. Experimental evidence bearing on this state is discussed and it is suggested that if the many complications of baryon number-2 ...
