Modern client platforms, such as iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows 8, have progressed from a per-user isolation policy, where users are isolated but a user's applications run in the same isolation container, to an application isolation policy, where different applications are isolated from one another.

This chapter discusses base-isolation systems. A set of simple examples are presented to identify the key parameters and illustrate the quantitative aspects of base isolation. This material is followed by a discussion of practical aspects of seismic base isolation and a description of some seismically isolated buildings.

Isolation-Based Anomaly Detection
ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data, 2012Anomalies are data points that are few and different. As a result of these properties, we show that, anomalies are susceptible to a mechanism called isolation . This article proposes a method called Isolation Forest ( i Forest), which detects anomalies purely based on the concept of isolation

“Smart” Base Isolation Systems
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2002A "smart" base isolation system (SBIS) is proposed and shown to effectively protect structures against extreme earthquakes without sacrificing performance during the more frequent, moderate seismic events. The proposed SBIS is composed of conventional low-damping elastomeric bearings and "smart" controllable (semiactive) dampers, such as ...

Semiconductor-based galvanic isolation
2015 IEEE 3rd Workshop on Wide Bandgap Power Devices and Applications (WiPDA), 2015This paper presents the study on the semiconductor-based galvanic isolation. This solution delivers the differential-mode (DM) power via semiconductor power switches during their on states, while sustaining the common-mode (CM) voltage and blocking the CM leakage current with those switches during their off states.

ISET Journal of Earthquake Technology, 1989
The paper presents the basic principles of Base Isolation (Earthquake/Vibration) in brief. Transmissibility could be reduced either by shifting the phase between the moving element and the foundation block or by increasing the absorption of energy in the propagating medium.
