Longitudinal Shear Modulus of Honeycomb Cores Based on Shear-Compressive Model

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
The deformation mechanism of unit cell wall is investigated by use of FEM, and the numerical simulation results show that the predominant deformations consist of shear deformation and compressive deformation. One new model based the shear deformation and the compressive deformation is put forward to investigate the longitudinal shear modulus of ...

Hydraulic shears based on an excavator

Vestnik Mashinostroeniya, 2020
The design of hydraulic shears installed on a hydraulic excavator instead of a bucket and designed to cut metal and destroy concrete structures is developed. The functional dependencies of the main parameters of hydraulic shears are given.

Shear time dependent viscosity of polystyrene-ethylacrylate based shear thickening fluid

Smart Materials and Structures, 2016
In this study, the influence of the shear rate and shear time on the transient viscosity of polystyrene-ethylacrylate based shear thickening fluid (STF) is investigated. If the shear rate is stepwise changed, it is found that both the viscosity and critical shear rate are affected by the shear time.

Monitoring of thermal therapy based on shear modulus changes: I. shear wave thermometry

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2011
The clinical applicability of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for noninvasive therapy is today hampered by the lack of robust and real-time monitoring of tissue damage during treatment. The goal of this study is to show that the estimation of local tissue elasticity from shear wave imaging (SWI) can lead to the 2-D mapping of temperature ...

Bender-element-based penetrometers for measuring shear wave velocity and shear strength

Géotechnique Letters, 2023
A bender-element-based dynamic penetrometer (BE-DP) was developed for the measurement of shear wave velocity (Vs-hh and Vs-hv) and shear strength parameters (cohesive strength (c) and internal friction angle (ϕ)) of soils. Shear wave velocity was measured through two pairs of bender elements installed in the cone shafts. Small-strain stiffness (Ghh and

Polymer-Based Cardiovascular Shear Stress Sensors

ASME 2007 2nd Frontiers in Biomedical Devices, 2007
This paper describes a polymer-based cardiovascular shear stress sensor built on catheter for atherosis diagnosis. This flexible sensor detects small temperature perturbation as fluid past the sensing elements leading to changes in the resistance, from which shear stress is inferred.

Cell-based shear stress sensor for bioprocessing

Journal of Biotechnology
Shear stress during bioreactor cultivation has significant impact on cell health, growth, and fate. Mammalian cells, such as T cells and stem cells, in next-generation cell therapies are especially more sensitive to shear stress present in their culture environment than bacteria.

Stability functions based upon shear functions

Boundary-Layer Meteorology, 1995
The stability functions for momentum and heat under a Richardson number formulation are derived from the nondimensional shear functions under a Monin-Obukhov formulation. The Prandtl number is also derived as a function of the Richardson number. Previously, this has been done only in a limited sense.

Spatial-light-modulator-based dual shearing direction shearography

Applied Optics, 2020
We propose a dual shearing shearography system based on a spatial light modulator (SLM). Compared to spatial phase shift shearography, the advantages of this system include its simple structure, relatively high light efficiency, and good phase map quality. Digital shearography is a fast, practical, non-contact, whole-field, and
