Design of Base Station Sleeping Scheme in Heterogeneous Cellular Networks Based on User Traffic and SINR

International Conference on Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing
Building green and environmentally friendly cellular networks is an important direction for the future development of mobile communication technology. As an important part of the mobile cellular network, the energy consumption of the base station cannot ...

Joint Optimization of Functional Split, Base Station Sleeping, and User Association in Crosshaul-Based V-RAN

IEEE Internet of Things Journal
The denser deployment of base stations (BSs) in the radio access network (RAN) results in substantial energy consumption and increases operating overheads.

Rewarded Access to a Sleeping Base Station

IEEE Communications Letters, 2015
This letter proposes a rewarded access scheme that facilitates access of users to a sleeping base station (BS). In our system, an accessing user can wake up the sleeping BS upon his arrival and decides to join or balk, if his reward is greater than or equal to his waiting cost caused by set-up times of the sleeping BS.

EMF-protection sleep study near mobile phone base stations

Somnologie - Schlafforschung und Schlafmedizin, 2008
In a crossover field study the potential role of radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic fields (EMF) in causing sleep disturbances was investigated in sleeping rooms of 43 volunteers (26 women and 17 men) attributing their sleep problems to RF-EMF from mobile telecommunication base stations.

CNN-based Centralized Sleeping Control and Bandwidth Allocation for Small Base Stations

2023
In recent years, the dense deployment of small base stations (SBSs) has led to the rising power consumption of mobile networks. In this paper, we introduce a convolutional neural network (CNN) based centralized sleeping control and bandwidth allocation (C-SCBA) scheme for multiple SBSs controlled by a central controller to minimize the total power ...

Optimal Base Station Sleeping in Green Cellular Networks: A Distributed Cooperative Framework Based on Game Theory

IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2015
This paper proposes a distributed cooperative framework to improve the energy efficiency of green cellular networks. Based on the traffic load, neighboring base stations (BSs) cooperate to optimize the BS switching (sleeping) strategies so as to maximize the energy saving while guaranteeing users' minimal service requirements.

Dynamic programming‐based pico base station sleep mode control in heterogeneous networks

International Journal of Communication Systems, 2015
SummaryIn this paper, a sleeping mode control for low power wireless node, that is, pico base station (PBS) in heterogeneous networks, is proposed to save energy cost with adaptation to the time‐varying traffic load. By formulating the sleep mode control problem into the framework of a standard 0/1 knapsack problem, then a dynamic programming scheme ...

Minimizing Energy Consumption via Sleep Mode in Green Base Station

2010 IEEE Wireless Communication and Networking Conference, 2010
In this paper, we develop new energy-efficient, radio resource management schemes for green wireless networks. Our goal is to optimize energy consumption at the network scale while preserving the Quality of Service (QoS) perceived by users. We specifically propose two new sleep mechanisms for base station where a number of resources in system can be ...

On energy-delay tradeoff in base station sleep mode operation

2012 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS), 2012
Base station (BS) sleep mode operation is one of the effective ways to save energy, but it may lead to longer delay to the customers. In order to evaluate the tradeoffs between energy consumption and customer delay, we model the BS sleep mode operation as an N-policy M/G/1 vacation queue with setup and close-down times, where the BS enters sleep mode ...

Sleep control for base stations powered by heterogeneous energy sources

2013 International Conference on ICT Convergence (ICTC), 2013
This paper considers a cellular network with base stations (BSs) powered by heterogeneous energy sources, i.e., besides conventional BSs connected to the power grid, some BSs are purely powered by the renewable energy. BS sleep is introduced not only to save grid power, but also to store renewable energy for future use when the temporal traffic ...
