On the Basic Reproduction Number of Reaction-Diffusion Epidemic Models
SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 2019Summary: The basic reproduction number \(R_0\) serves as a threshold parameter of many epidemic models for disease extinction or spread. The purpose of this paper is to investigate \(R_0\) for spatial reaction-diffusion partial differential equation epidemic models.

The estimation of the basic reproduction number for infectious diseases
Statistical Methods in Medical Research, 1993The basic reproduction number Ro is the number of secondary cases which one case would produce in a completely susceptible population. It depends on the duration of the infectious period, the probability of infecting a susceptible individual during one contact, and the number of new susceptible individuals contacted per unit of time.
