Male weaponry evolution is often linked to male–male competition, but its relationship with breeding site type remains unclear. Using Leptodactylinae frogs, we found a macroevolutionary correlation between breeding site type and weapon evolution. Also, gains and losses of weapons occurred more frequently in exposed‐breeding sites, an unexpected finding.

Basin of Attraction of Associative Memory as it Evolves from Random Weights
We apply genetic algorithms to fully connected Hopfield associative memory networks. Previously, we reported that a genetic algorithm can evolve networks with random synaptic weights to store some number of patterns by pruning some of its synapses.

We performed 16S rDNA sequencing and metabolite profiling for three sympatric lizard species—Teratoscincus roborowskii, Phrynocephalus axillaris, and Eremias roborowskii—and compared their goblet cell and enzyme activities in the digestive tract. Our study suggests that the dietary niche may promote divergence or convergence of microbiota across host ...

A Tale of Appendages: Investigating Limb and Tail Variation in Salamanders
We analyzed limb and tail proportions in 44% of known salamander species using a phylogenetic comparative approach. Our results revealed significant variation among families and ecological groups, with aquatic species showing longer limbs and basal lineages having shorter tails.

Inferring alternative ecosystem states with field survey data
Abstract Many ecosystems potentially exhibit alternative stable states, where distinct states can coexist under identical environmental conditions. While simulation models have generated key hypotheses in alternative stable states theory, they often rely on scale‐free parameters disconnected from real ecosystems.

Basin of attraction of triangular maps with applications
PreprintWe consider some planar triangular maps. These maps preserve certain fibration of the plane. We assume that there exists an invariant attracting fiber and we study the limit dynamics of those points in the basin of attraction of this invariant ...
