Strengthening urban resilience in China through underground infrastructures management: Addressing global climate challenges with technological solutions

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper explores how climate‐resilient technologies, such as smart grids, digital twins, and self‐healing materials, can enhance urban resilience. It highlights the urgent need for proactive planning, public‐private collaboration, and data‐driven innovation to future‐proof underground infrastructure amid accelerating climate and urban pressures ...

Two characteristics of planar intertwined basins of attraction

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, we investigate the intertwined basins of attraction for planar dynamical systems. We prove that the intertwining property is preserved by topologically equivalent systems.

Comparative Analysis of Metal Preloading Technologies in Batteries and Capacitors

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
Metal preloading strategies play an important role in efficient batteries and hybrid capacitors to compensate for the consumed metals at the first discharge. This article reviews recent progress in preloading technologies in lithium‐ion and other metal‐ion systems.

Basins of attraction: population dynamics with two stable 4‐cycles

open access: yes, 2002
We use the concepts of composite maps, basins of attraction, basin switching, and saddle fly-by\u27s to make the ecological hypothesis of the existence of multiple attractors more accessible to experimental scrutiny.

Macroecological relationships of ant diversity with increasing aridity in Australian tropical savannas: contrasting responses of epigaeic and hypogaeic assemblages

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Studies using climatic gradients play a key role in our understanding of the importance of rainfall and temperature as factors regulating species diversity and distribution, and thus of likely responses to climate change. However, such studies currently consider above‐ground species only, ignoring the diverse hypogaeic (subterranean) invertebrate fauna.

Basins of Attraction for Pulse-Coupled Oscillators

open access: yes, 2014
Basins of attraction for forward invariant sets can carve out portions of phase space where one can make predictions for asymptotic dynamics. We present com- putational algorithms for computing inner approximations of basins of attraction for discrete ...

Quantitative Insights into Atomic Scale Oil–Clay Adhesion Governing Shale Oil Retention and Mobility

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Atomic force microscopy reveals a clear adhesion hierarchy between shale oil and clay minerals, governed by nanoscale surface chemistry. Strong interactions on chlorite and illite arise from abundant polar sites and cation bridging, whereas weaker coupling on montmorillonite limits interfacial binding.

Renewable Energies in Kazakhstan: Current Status, Potential, Challenges, and Opportunities

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Kazakhstan has strong renewable energy potential, with wind as the leading resource and solar and other sources offering additional opportunities. Key challenges include limited infrastructure, investment needs, and grid‐related technical issues. Despite these barriers, renewables can boost economic diversification, enhance energy security, create jobs,

On a Uniparametric Class of Sixth-Order Multiple-Root Finders Using Rational Weighting

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
This investigation provides a comprehensive analytical framework for the topological morphology and global convergence dynamics governing a specific family of sixth-order iterative schemes designed for nonlinear equations with multiple roots. By invoking

Riddled basins of attraction in systems exhibiting extreme events [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Using a system of two FitzHugh-Nagumo units, we demonstrate the occurrence of riddled basins of attraction in delay-coupled systems as the coupling between the units is increased.
