Self‐Assembled Inorganic Nanomembrane Tubes: Rolled‐Up Piezoelectrics for Microacoustic Wave‐Based Actuators and Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

Deprotonative C(sp3)/C(sp2)–H (Multi)Silylation of (Hetero)Arenes Mediated by NaTMP

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An operationally simple protocol using a strongly basic sodium amide in combination with sterically emcumbered silicon electrophiles enables the deprotonative C–H (multi)silylation of a myriad of (hetero)arenes. Mechanistic investigations highlight the pivotal role of steric and coordination effects in controlling the regioselectivity and efficiency of

Sobre el europeo antiguo y la reconstrucción del protovasco

open access: yesAnuario del Seminario de Filología Vasca "Julio de Urquijo", 1996
As reported in the literature (cf. Mitxelena 1964, Trask 1997), for centuries Basque has been compared with numerous languages by a number of scholars.

Levinas’ notion of neighbor as an approach to understand Pío Baroja, otherness and modern Spain. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The Cold War era touched Spain only subtly. Because of the geopolitical situation of Europe during the second half of the 20th century, Spain remained almost isolated from macro politics, attempting impossible alliances with Italian and German fascism ...

Spin‐Split Edge States in Metal‐Supported Graphene Nanoislands Obtained by CVD

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combining STM measurements and ab‐initio calculations, we show that zig‐zag edges in graphene nanoislands grown on Ni(111) by CVD retrieve their spin‐polarized edge states after intercalation of a few monolayers of Au. ABSTRACT Spin‐split states localized on zigzag edges have been predicted for different free‐standing graphene nanostructures.

Dissimilar Electrolyte Decouples Zn and MnO2 Redox Chemistry Enabling Dual‐Electrode‐Free Lean‐Electrolyte Batteries

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
While dual‐electrode‐free Zn‐MnO2 batteries offer high voltage, intrinsic safety and simple manufacturing, their efficiency and stability are limited by incompatible Zn and MnO2 redox chemistries. This work introduces a dissimilar electrolyte architecture to decouple Zn and MnO2 reactions, endowing a dual‐electrode‐free and lean‐electrolyte Zn‐MnO2 ...

Bringing phonological oddities to the fore: The Basque sibilants

open access: yesAnuario del Seminario de Filología Vasca "Julio de Urquijo"
The contrast between apical and laminal articulations in Basque dento-alveolar sibilant consonants has traditionally attracted linguists’ attention. This distributedness distinction, as it has come to be known in the literature, was assumed to be very ...

Language Policy and Language Repression: The Case of Spanish Basques and Mexican Americans [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
This paper presents the argument that there are many similarities between the linguistic and cultural repression experienced by Basques in Spain and Mexican Americans in the United States.

Cultural field and literature in minority languages: Basque under Francoism

open access: yesPoetics, 2019
The concept of the cultural field allows us to address the emergence of literatures in minority languages before these literatures can constitute autonomous fields. Located within a broader dialogue involving different expressions of culture, the concept of the cultural field requires that one considers the field’s relationship to different sources of ...
