Beauveria bassiana strain ATCC 74040 (Naturalis®), a valuable tool for the control of the cherry fruit fly (Rhagoletis cerasi) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Naturalis® is a bioinsecticide based on living conidiospores of the naturally occuring Beauveria bassiana strain ATCC 74040. The entomopathogenic fungus acts primarily by contact: once attached to the insect’s cuticle, the conidiospores germinate ...

Glucosinolate hydrolysis products suppress entomopathogenic nematodes in vitro but do not protect sequestering flea beetle larvae in vivo

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The flea beetle's glucosinolate‐based chemical defense fails to protect larvae from nematode infection. However, the defense inhibits the nematode's symbiotic bacteria, thereby potentially impairing nematode reproduction and biocontrol success. Abstract BACKGROUND The efficacy of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) in the biological control of insect ...

Pathogenicity of three commercial products of entomopathogenic fungi, Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizum anisopilae and Lecanicillium lecanii against adults of olive fly, Bactrocera oleae (Gmelin) (Diptera: Tephritidae) in the laboratory

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2009
The pathogenicity of entomopathogenic fungi, Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizum anisopilae and Lecanicillium lecanii, was evaluated against adults of the olive fly Bactrocera oleae (Gmelin) under laboratory conditions by two ways, contact bioassays and oral ...

Endophytic Beauveria bassiana Induces Oxidative Stress and Enhances the Growth of Fusarium oxysporum-Infected Tomato Plants

open access: yesPlants, 2022
Studying the mechanisms through which endophytic fungi confer protection to host plants against parasites will contribute toward elucidating the endophytic fungi–plant–pathogen relationship. In this study, we evaluated the effects of endophytic Beauveria

Using deep learning to assess the toxicological effects of sublethal exposure of a novel green pesticide in a stored‐product beetle

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study employs an AI‐driven multidisciplinary approach to increase our understanding of the toxicological effects of sublethal concentrations of carlina oxide on Prostephanus truncatus. Sublethal exposure to the carlina oxide induced changes in motor patterns and thigmotaxis, highlighting its potential role in integrated pest management strategies.

Endophytic colonisation of tomato by the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana: the use of different inoculation techniques and their effects on the tomato leafminer Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection Research, 2017
Fungal entomopathogens can naturally regulate populations of various insects. The entomopathogen Beauveria bassiana (Bals.- Criv.) Vuill. is also able to endophytically colonize different plants.

Evaluation of synthetic repellents on mosquito nets in experimental huts against insecticide-resistant Anopheles gambiae and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes.

open access: yes, 2006
Owing to the development of pyrethroid resistance in Anopheles gambiae, there is a need to develop chemical alternatives for use on mosquito nets. Synthetic insect repellents are widely used for personal protection as skin or clothing applications.

Microscopic analysis of Cordyceps bassiana (anamorph stage: Beauveria bassiana) stromata during artificial cultivation for commercial use

open access: yesThe Journal of General and Applied Microbiology, 2012
Cordyceps is an ascomycete genus that contains universal entomopathogenic fungal species. Thus, it has been used as a biocontrol agent against insect pests. In addition, as insect-borne mushrooms this genus has been studied for diverse medicinal use and pharmacological activities (Zhou et al., 2009).

Conned by the enemy: the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae lures and kills Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Highly pathogenic isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae attracted Drosophila suzukii. Identifying the responsible compounds for this attraction could help the development of these isolates for pest monitoring and overall pest management. Abstract BACKGROUND Drosophila suzukii, commonly known as spotted wing drosophila (SWD), is a highly invasive and ...

Beauveria bassiana y Metarhizium anisopliae como controladores compatibles y eficientes de insectos plaga en cultivos acuapónicos

open access: yesScientia Agropecuaria, 2020
El objetivo fue estudiar la compatibilidad y eficiencia de Beauveria bassiana y Metarhizium anisopliae para el control de insectos plagas en col y lechuga cultivados en un sistema acuapónico conformado por tanques de Piaractus brachypomus.
