Study on Properties of Bast Fibers
Light weight , softness and comfort are becoming the development priority for the bast fabrics for apparel use. Therefore, some properties of the bast fabers related to these aspects become important. In this paper, the properties of bast fibers, including fiber length, fineness, tenacity, softness were tested and evaluated to determine which is better

Evaluation of the fineness of degummed bast fibers
Fiber fineness characteristics are important for yarn production and quality. In this paper, degummed bast fibers such as hemp, flax and ramie have been examined with the Optical Fiber Diameter Analyzer (OFDA100 and OFDA2000) systems for fiber fineness, in comparison with the conventional image analysis and the Wira airflow tester.

Enzymatic degumming of ramie bast fibers
Journal of Biotechnology, 2000Bast fibers from ramie (Boehmeria nivea) were treated with cell-free culture supernatants from an Amycolata sp. and a recombinant Streptomyces lividans strain expressing the Amycolata pectate lyase to investigate the degumming effects of different extracellular polysaccharide-degrading enzymes. Culture supernatants from the Amycolata sp.

Bast Fiber Decortication for Biocomposites by a Mastication Process
Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 2023Abstract This paper discusses a new method for decorticating bast fiber stalks, particularly hemp and flax, through a mastication process without damaging the fiber for use in biocomposites. Conventional automated decortication methods provide high stalk processing throughput, but they significantly damage the bast fibers and adversely ...
